In 1980, the Thunderbird celebrated its 25th anniversary with a more contemporary look built on the new Fox platform shared with the Mustang, Capri, Fairmont, and Zephyr. A new smaller V-8, the 255ci small-block, was short-lived for T-bird buyers. Ford’s automatic overdrive debuted in the ’80 Thunderbird. Despite these features, sales declined through 1982.
