The first step in cam degreeing is determining top dead center (TDC). True TDC is when the piston travels as far as possible during that brief crank rollover upstroke. At TDC, there is piston dwell time of 1-2 degrees, depending on rod ratio. The same is true at bottom dead center (BDC).
