Installing Independent Rear Suspension In A Classic Mustang - Total Independence
The cradle bolts right to the framerails in the stock leaf-spring mounting points.
Be sure to use a thread-locking compound on the differential's mounting bolts.
With one end of the cradle secured, bolt in the differential.
With the differential secured, lift the rear end of the cradle into place....
....and secure with bolts to the rear framerail mounting point for the original leaf spring shackles.
First, attach the upper control arm to the cradle.
Next, fasten the lower control arms. Note the beefy bracing and mount for the shock.
Bolt in the QA1 coilover shocks and adjust the ride height using the included instructions as a guide.
Install the halfshaft and machined hub carrier. Since this is an early kit, OE late-model cast spindles were used, but all future kits will have the machined hub carrier, which is much stronger.
Stainless Steel Brakes supplies a set of slotted and plated rotors for the disc brakes, replacing the old drum brakes used on the factory live axle. Calipers for the disc brakes are now included with the IRS package as well.
Subframe connectors running to the forward end of the chassis are also included with the Control Freak system for additional stiffness and must be welded in. They are shown here already installed and painted body color.
