Classic Mustang Swaybar Install - The Low Down
On the inside of the framerail, put a bushing over the bolt with the shouldered side away from the framerail. The shoulder keeps the attachment bracket centered on the bolt.
With the antisway-bar end in position, place another shouldered bushing over the bolt and cap with a steel washer. Finally, the bolt is fitted with a nylon-collared nut. Use a wrench on each end to complete the tightening.
Now is the time to tighten every fastener at the bar ends. All nuts used on the bar are nylon collared, eliminating the need for lock washers.
This photo shows the completed attachment at the antisway-bar ends. It's a solid arrangement that still allows the bar ends to pivot with movement of the axle.
The new U-bolts included with the lowering-block kit were longer than we needed, and so that we don't have the extra length hanging down, we cut the excess length with a cut-off wheel.
The U-bolts that retain the antisway bar on the rear-axle housing are tightened evenly. Here the brackets are tack-welded into place. This additional step isn't in the instructions, but we don't want the positioning of the bar to change going over an especially hard bump.
Here's the completed installation of both the rear antisway bar and the lowering-block kit. With the car on the ground, we immediately noticed the difference in its stance.
Compare this shot to the first photo of our car.
We love the road-racer stance and enhanced handling that the lowering and rear antisway bar offers. Body roll at the back of the car has been virtually eliminated.
