Fuel Injection Conversion Mass Air Meter
The EEC-IV-based system from Ford began using a mass air meter in the '88 California units, then went to all 50 states and Canada, starting with the '89 model year. The mass air meter is an input sensor, essentially telling the PCM how much air is entering the engine so that the PCM can calculate what to do with the output sensors (injectors, for instance). A popular upgrade for modular Mustangs making big power is this 90mm Lightning truck meter from Ford Racing Performance Parts.

Fuel Injection Conversion Filter
Since the stock mass air meter is engineered to work with the stock inlet ducting, many companies have incorporated larger inlet tubing and larger, free-breathing filter media to their aftermarket mass air meters. The upgraded meter, ducting, and filter are great ways to improve your engine's inlet tract.

Fuel Injection Conversion Fuel Injectors
The all-important fuel injector. These guys are barely visible in the engine compartment but are asked to do so much. Properly sizing the injectors to the engine's fuel requirements is a big step in performance and driveability.

Fuel Injection Conversion Low Profile Intake
As noted in our opening caption, the 5.0's EFI setup is very popular with classic Ford guys. Here, a stock '94-'95 low-profile intake works perfectly with it's curved inlet to route the induction tube and filter into this '65 Mustang's battery tray area (now that the battery is in the trunk).

Fuel Injection Conversion Aftermarket Engine
We've also seen classic Fords go the aftermarket route as well. The basic EEC IV system is used, but aftermarket heads, intake, mass air meter, injectors, and more are used almost as easily as if the car was a late-model Mustang with factory EFI to begin with.
