The comprehensive kit includes...
The comprehensive kit includes the ultra-small, chromed Sanden SD-7 compressor with hard lines. Also part of the kit is a chrome Powermaster 100-amp, one-wire alternator. Shown at the left of the photo is the new Delphi aluminum power-steering pump. It includes the exclusive Concept One billet-aluminum pump-mounted mini reservoir. As you can see, the Concept One kit includes first-class hardware across the board. Also seen is the included Goodyear Gatorback serpentine drive belt.
Pete Waydo loves classic Mustangs. So much so that he quit his job at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, to open Reen Machine, home of the re-engineered Mustang (get it?).
Besides offering an interesting selection of parts for classic Mustang modifications, his company has also been known to complete custom one-off projects. Currently Pete is focusing on a '68 Mustang fastback build he's been working on for some time. A brand-new Boss 302 crate engine from Ford Racing Performance Parts is being used for this particular buildup. For the front accessory drive, a Concept One Serpentine Drive system has been chosen.
Here we see the blister-packed...
Here we see the blister-packed pulley and mounting hardware included with the kit, including a new OEM spring tensioner with billet-aluminum pulley. Also shown are the crank pulley, water pump pulley, power steering pulley, alternator fan, and alternator pulley. The complete bracket set for the air-conditioning compressor is also shown, along with the compressor nose chrome hardware, the power steering-pump mounting bracket, the alternator mounting bracket, alternator mounting spacer, and required attachment hardware.
Besides a guaranteed perfect fit and alignment, the Concept One set is going to look terrific with all of the brushed bracketry and polished component surfaces. We haven't used any pulley system on the new Boss block, and we were curious to see if there would be any installation issues using the FRPP block. As you'll see shortly in our installation, the Concept one kit was one in which everything fit and worked exactly as it was supposed to-one of those rare occasions where everything went just right, without any installation issues whatsoever.
Although this '68 Mustang will be a Bullitt tribute car, the plan is for an advanced design featuring special suspension and an overdrive transmission. In addition, the car will be loaded with engine-driven amenities such as air conditioning and power steering, as well as the alternator.
Concept One offers kits for all types of accessory drives, and Pete decided to go with the full-house offering, which includes the air-conditioning compressor, a power steering pump, and a 100-amp one-wire alternator. The complete polished kit is part number SFM01P and costs $1,895; it's available with a machined finish for $1,695. Remember, these prices include all of the bracket-mounted accessories, spring-loaded self-tensioning belt tensioner, and even a Goodyear Gatorback serpentine belt!
We visited Reen Machine in Ventura, California, to check out the latest from Concept One, and see how it all goes together on the new Ford Racing Boss crate engine family.

Here's the new FRPP Boss 302...

Here's the new FRPP Boss 302 crate engine, fresh out of the box and factory equipped with everything you'd like. This customer chose the M-6007-Z302Z model with 390 hp and 360 lb-ft of torque. It's the bulletproof way to repower your classic Mustang. It carries a price of $8,790. It's equipped with the short-style water pump as used on the '94-'95 Mustang, but Concept One offers its kit for either short- or standard-nose-type pumps.

There's some pre-assembly...

There's some pre-assembly required for the main components. Here the alternator fan and pulley are installed onto the alternator shaft. Blue Loctite is used on the retaining nut, and the polished pulley nose is then installed. It is retained in place with a rubber o-ring and shoulder.

Here we are again installing...

Here we are again installing a drive pulley, this time on the Delphi power steering pump.

Identify the correct fasteners...

Identify the correct fasteners and spacers, and install them onto the power steering and alternator baseplate. They attach to the threaded holes already present on the cylinder head and block.

Next, with the correct cap...

Next, with the correct cap screws in place, line up the power steering pump and attach it to the Concept One baseplate. Notice the use of blue Loctite, shown already applied on the fasteners.

Once all bolts have been started...

Once all bolts have been started the power steering pump can be tightened into place. You'll need to use the access holes in the drive pulley as shown for fastener access.

With the fasteners in place...

With the fasteners in place through the bracket and the spacer in position behind it, the alternator bracket is fit into position on the baseplate.

On the other side of the engine,...

On the other side of the engine, the baseplate for the air conditioning compressor is installed next. As was the case with the alternator and power steering baseplate, the correct spacers need to be in place when the bracket goes onto the engine.

Here the order of assembly...

Here the order of assembly shows how the belt tensioner housing mounts to the face of the baseplate and is capped off by the front compressor mounting bracket. In addition, the thick spacer/rear compressor mount that goes between the baseplate and engine must also be held in the correct position as the fasteners travel through all of them on their way to seat in the cylinder head.

Once everything is correctly...

Once everything is correctly aligned, the hex-head cap screws are tightened securely. Again we used blue Loctite on all the bolt threads.

The OE-style belt tensioner...

The OE-style belt tensioner is installed into the housing next. It preloads the belt with a strong spring that removes any slack in the system. This keeps the belt tension exactly where it needs to be for optimum belt grip and compensates for belt stretch as well.

The A/C hard line fittings...

The A/C hard line fittings have o-ring seals at the compressor and are installed onto the Sanden compressor with Allen-head hardware. The brushed compressor nose cone was also installed at this time with the provided hex-head screws.

Once the compressor is lifted...

Once the compressor is lifted into place, all attachment fasteners are installed. Here again the mounting is a one-position hard mount. The tensioner provides automatic belt tension adjustment to every driven component.

Next the water pump drive...

Next the water pump drive pulley is installed. The driven surface of the pulley is smooth because it rides on the backside of the belt. This is because the water pump is a reverse rotation pump, as used on all OE Ford 5.0L HO serpentine systems.

Route the belt according to...

Route the belt according to the directions; then rotate the spring-loaded tensioner clockwise with a wrench, as shown here. The retracted pulley will allow you enough slack in the belt to slip the belt over the tensioner pulley and complete the installation.

This view of the completed...

This view of the completed installation shows why the Concept One set is worth the money. Great appearance, perfect alignment, and ease of installation make this the way to go. With all of the major components included, the kit is a good value and will save you endless hours of trying to cobble a system together using an assortment of unrelated parts. It's also great to know its system works flawlessly with the new Boss based crate engines as well, being as popular as they are.

The crank spacer is carefully...

The crank spacer is carefully machined for an indexed fit at both the balancer and the pulley. Four hex-head cap screws from the kit are used to complete the installation of the crank pulley and spacer assembly.
