This is the lifter, which is inserted into the block in the liftervalley. The lifter rides on the cam lobe inside the block (not visiblehere). The lifter transforms the cam lobe's eccentric shape into linearmotion, which follows the pushrod to the rocker arm. There are fourbasic types of lifters: flat-tappet mechanical, flat-tappet hydraulic,roller mechanical, and roller hydraulic. Shown here is a flat-tappethydraulic. View Related Article
