The Auto-Air Colors line of paints includes dozens of colors, including Sparklescent, Cosmic Sparkle, Hot Rod Sparkle, and Sparkle Flake lines. They also sell a great line of Candy colors and special colors like Iridescent, Pearlized, Metallic, Color-Shift, Fluorescent, and more. We used Pearlized Black for our '68 Mustang hardtop shown at top. A single-color repaint is the most basic paint job you can do, but applying several colors to accent body lines or to add stripes isn't much harder. Auto-Air's paints are competitively priced and available in 4-ounce bottles for striping and graphics, as well as pints, quarts, and gallons so you can buy just the right amount for the job.

1968 Ford Mustang Auto Air Colors Paint Job Makeshift Paint Booth
We borrowed some space at Classic Creations of Central Florida (CCCF) for our DIY paint booth. A clean work area should be your top concern. As shown, we covered the walls and work areas with heavy mil plastic, not only to keep airborne paint off surrounding surfaces but also to keep dust out of our paint. A filtered air source and some sort of ventilation or circulation are needed, and a good sweep and mop of the floor is necessary as well. We've even heard of people making paint booths in their garage with 2x4s, heavy plastic, and duct-taped A/C filters. Whatever works for you, just keep it clean!

1968 Ford Mustang Auto Air Colors Paint Job Masking The Car
We're painting our interior door panels, dash, and trunk area a different sheen of black, so we had to mask off the window openings, trunk, and engine compartment, completed here by Merv Rego of CCCF. Remember, the more you take off the car, for example, glass, fenders, and so on, the better the paint job. We've already block sanded the complete surface with 800-grit paper and used 3M's powdered guidecoat to make sure our surface was completely prepped before bringing the car into the paint booth.
