This step is critical. The new sockets are numbered one to three. Socket number one goes toward the inside of the car and socket number three goes toward the outside. We'll test our work later before reassembling the trunk. Installation of the sockets is the opposite of removing them. They are keyed so they'll only go in one way.

One last check to make sure the sockets are in the right order and we're ready to reinstall. Use one nut to hold the housing in place. Feed the harness into the body and connect the wiring harness into the body wiring harness. You can now test the lights for proper function. With the hazard lights on the lights should sequence from inside to the outside of the car. With the turn signal on the lights should also sequence from the inside out. Change the bulb sockets as necessary if your sequence is out of order.

After testing, reinstall the remaining nuts for the taillight housing. Secure the taillight harness grommet in place and the wiring harness retainer. Reinstall the trunk trim panel and you're now one step closer to finishing your modified Mustang!
