Ted works the quarter-panel diagonally with a long board. This is called"working the guidecoat" to find flaws. Irregularities in the surface arefilled with body filler and spot putty as necessary. This is a searchfor wavy spots and low spots. Ted will find them.

The Dura-Block is used for the final stretch of block-sanding. Theseguys follow the surfaces with more discipline, which gets rid ofirregularities. Not only do you want to eliminate low and high spots,you want to eliminate the waves and ripples.

Ted approaches all body panels with the same discipline. The hood has acrown. Ted runs masking take along the crown in order to work each sideuniformly. He tapes one side and works the other. When both sides arefinished, there is a uniform crown.
