This is a conventional sealed-beam General Electric headlamp made forFord back in the early '60s. Note the Ford script in the glass. This isa sealed glass envelope void of air in a perfect vacuum. Inside, thereare two filaments--one shielded filament for low beam and one unshieldedfilament for high beam. Not all Fords came from the factory with Fordscript headlamps. Some were fitted with General Electric headlamps withthe GE logo or "General Electric" in the glass along the bottom. Thetype of lamp used depended upon availability. If the demand for newvehicles outstripped GE's ability to produce "Ford" script lamps, regular "GE" lamps were sourced.
