Car clocks are simple wind-up units with balance wheels that get help from a briefly energized solenoid that rewinds the movement. The contacts touch, energizing the solenoid which rewinds the clock with a resounding “click!”. Car clocks quit when rewind solenoid contacts become dirty or burned.
