Royal Purple Ladies, an initiative launched by Royal Purple in October 2012 to advance women’s interests in the automotive industry, is seeking applications for a female-owned vehicle to be featured at the 2013 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, November 5 – 8.

Women who would like to be considered to represent Royal Purple Ladies at The SEMA Show will need to submit the following items by May 31, 2013:
    •    Detailed spec list for the vehicle (please include any Royal Purple products used in the car)
    •    Photos (no more than 10) of the vehicle inside and out
    •    One written page with four paragraphs that include –
    ◦    Paragraph 1 - Tell them about yourself
    ◦    Paragraph 2 - History of your vehicle
    ◦    Paragraph 3 - Why should you be selected to show your car as a Feature Vehicle?
    ◦    Paragraph 4 - How do you hope to inspire other women by showing your vehicle?
 
“We are looking for a vehicle to represent Royal Purple Ladies that is 100-percent female owned, restored or built, either a show or race car,” said Royal Purple Communications Specialist, Marlena Solomon.
 
Royal Purple will handle the registration on behalf of Royal Purple Ladies. The winning owner will also receive Royal Purple swag and an invite to Royal Purple’s VIP dinner in Las Vegas during the show.
 
Vehicle transportation to Las Vegas and hotel accommodations for the selected owner will not be included, but Royal Purple can assist with pricing for both as needed. The vehicle owner will be responsible for all travel expenses and transportation to and from Las Vegas, as applicable. Meals, excluding the winner's VIP dinner, and any other costs associated with the trip are also the responsibility of the owner.
 
To offset some of these costs, owners can get sponsors for the trip. SEMA allows the placement of decals on the vehicle if sponsors are already SEMA Show exhibitors. Owners can also acknowledge sponsors on their brag board.

Kenny Brown, known as “The Godfather of Performance”, has collaborated with Jeff Victor from Victor Ford to create this special edition, one-off 2013 Ford Mustang GT4-CS (Club Sport) designed for both street and track driving. This car was built to drive to the track, dominate the course, and then make the haul back home afterward. According to Jeff Victor, this is the best driving Mustang he has ever driven after completing just a few laps at The Autobahn Country Club circuit in Joliet, Illinois.

The car started life as a 5.0-liter Mustang GT with the factory Premium package including the Track-Pack option, which is also fitted to the Boss 302 Mustang. Of course, it had the GT4-CS track day package installed by Kenny Brown, making it a force to be reckoned with capable of a mean 435 horsepower. This Kona Blue Stang features a ton of goodies, including factory Recaro seats, Boss 302 wheels and brakes, 3.73 gears, and a short throw shifter among other sweet options.

This GT4-CS supposedly handles like a Boss but has the comforts of a regular Mustang GT with incredible handling thanks to the Kenny Brown enhancements. This blue beast is up for grabs for that someone looking for that track/street combo car. You can schedule a test drive at Victor Ford or the Autobahn Country Club and check it out for yourself! But be careful, a lap or two and you may end up with something super shiny and new to occupy that garage!

Hennessey Performance is not shy about amping-up the performance potential of already potent factory machines, and its new upgrade package for the Ford Taurus SHO is the latest case in point. The EcoBoosted Taurus already is a four-door force to be reckoned with straight off the Ford showroom floor that gets even meaner with the Hennessey package.

Dubbed MaxBoost 445, Hennessey’s version of the Taurus SHO includes a Hennessey dual cold air induction system as well as new polished hard piping to the turbochargers. Along with those upgrades, they added an HPE engine management calibration and tested it all on the dyno. For that added rumble, a CORSA stainless steel cat-back exhaust system was installed.

With Hennessey’s modifications, this SHO is capable of 0 – 60 miles per hour in 4.3 seconds, and can conquer the quarter mile in 12.8 seconds at 109 miles per hour, according to the Texas tuner’s testing. As the name would suggest, the package generates 445 bhp at 5400 rpm throwing power down to all four wheels -- a healthy 80 hp over stock.

Each SHO comes with serial numbered dash and engine plaques, exterior Hennessey badges available in either chrome or black, MaxBoost 445 badges, and Hennessey embroidered headrests. A 1-year, 12,000 mile warranty also comes with each Hennessey-modified SHO.

Legislation (H.B. 4001) to repeal the requirement that all gasoline offered for sale in the state contain a percentage of ethanol was approved by the Senate on a 33 – 1 vote.    

Currently, the Florida Renewable Fuels Standard requires that all gasoline sold or offered for sale by a terminal supplier, importer, blender or wholesaler in Florida contain 9-10 percent ethanol, or other alternative fuel, by volume.  The bill will now be sent to the governor for his signature and enactment into law.

    •    H.B. 4001 recognizes that ethanol increases water formation which can then corrode metals, plastics and rubber, especially over a period of time when the vehicle is not used.  Current high performance specialty parts along with pre-model year 2001 cars and parts may be most susceptible to corrosion.
    •    H.B. 4001 recognizes that the life span of vehicles and equipment can be dramatically reduced with the wrong fuel and that owners could be confronted with break downs. Anti-corrosion additives are available for each purchase of gasoline but can become expensive, burdensome and require consumer education.
    •    H.B. 4001 recognizes that while the current ethanol mandate does not apply to fuel used in collector vehicles, off-road vehicles, motorcycles or small engines, there has been an inability to obtain unblended gasoline for engines that may be damaged by ethanol.

The Los Angeles Shelby American Automobile Club (LASAAC) will celebrate the life of automotive legend Carroll Shelby with the first annual Carroll Shelby Tribute and Car Show on May 11, 2013, one year after his passing.

The one-day event will take place at the Carroll Shelby Foundation Headquarters at 19021 S. Figueroa St. Gardena, CA 90248, and It will feature a Ford and Shelby car show, awards ceremony, panel discussion led by Rick Titus, a Texas-style chili bar, special guests and an engine rev salute.

“Carroll Shelby changed the course of history and touched millions of lives through his racing, his companies and his charity,” said Randy Richards, LASAAC president. “He challenged us to honor his legacy by continuing his work. This annual event will be a celebration for everyone who shares Carroll’s passion for performance and pursuit of excellence, while also supporting causes he truly believed in.”

Event gates open at 10 a.m. PDT, and while there is no charge for admission, a $10 donation to the Carroll Shelby Foundation includes a show decal. Attendees will feast their eyes on some of the rarest Shelby cars from the past five decades. Ingersoll Rand Announces New 20V Cordless Ratchets On the IQV20 Series Platform

Ingersoll Rand, a global leader in professional tools and equipment, is adding new ratchets to its evolving IQV20 Series cordless line. The Ingersoll Rand R3130 3/8ʺ and R3150 ½ʺ 20V cordless ratchet wrenches provide the power, portability and access users need for tight access jobs. New Mighty Demon 850 annular carburetor for big-blocks and big small-blocks

Demon Carburetion has introduced a new 850cfm carburetor with annular boosters for high performing big-block engines and large displacement or high-revving small blocks. Check out all the details on this new carb in the blog below.

Prepared with 1.560in venturii and intended to operate with 425 to 540cu in engines with camshaft duration of 240-plus @ 0.050in valve opening, this new carburetor demonstrates its talents in street car use, bracket racing, and heads-up class racing.

With mechanically operated secondary throttles and equipped with removable air bleeds and idle-feed restrictors, it possesses all the features of the former Race Demon with the exception of removable emulsion bleeds and boosters.

The removable idle-feed restrictors are particularly helpful for perfecting the idle mixture on individual engine combinations—excelling with differing camshafts, cylinder heads, and intakes. For example, if the throttle plates are adjusted to the correct position yet the idle mixture is too lean or too rich and cannot be remedied by ignition timing, simply replace the idle-feed restrictors.

Years ago Demon envisioned the possibility of increasing idle speed without disturbing the throttle plates from their correct position. The ingenious concept involved inserting a screwdriver in the air cleaner stud hole and making an adjustment. Happily, this innovation known as the Idle-eze™ is provided on the new 850 annular model as is four-corner idle adjustment, power valve backfire protection and a kick-down mechanism that accepts Ford’s transmission linkage.

As expected this Mighty Demon features billet metering blocks and base plates as well as throttle plates mounted on Teflon-coated throttle shafts that prevent galling in the bores of the aluminum base plates. An appealing prospect, these are much improved from earlier models and demonstrate a precision-fit that is slick and smooth in operation.

A carburetor for docile engines this is not. Instead it is a race-style carburetor with annular boost venturii, each with eight discharge orifices for increased signal strength and a reputation for impressive fuel distribution. The new Mighty Demon 850 annular is finished in a clear die chromate.

On Sunday, May 5th, 2013, over 300 cars will fill the streets around Vic’s Garage for the 8th Annual Rev’ved Up 4 Kids Charity Car Show. Automotive enthusiasts are invited to come out and enjoy a day of hot rods, great food, live entertainment and everything else that encompasses car culture. Leon “The Motorman” Kaplan from Talk Radio KABC will be broadcasting live from the K&N booth starting at 8:00 a.m. Various popular gourmet food trucks will be attending to satisfy your appetite. The show will also host the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge, where teams of high school students from all over Southern California race to tear down and rebuild an engine in a timed and judged competition. Additionally, the ever so popular Kids Corner will return with tons of activities for children of all ages. Many aftermarket manufacturers will be in attendance to exhibit their products. Show hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Spectator entry is free, however, The Edelbrock Family Foundation will be accepting any donations.

Mickey Thompson Wins The 2013 Justice Brothers-Shav Glick Award

Marion “Mickey” Thompson has been selected as the 2013 winner of the Justice Brothers-Shav Glick award. See the offical news below for full details!

Mickey Thompson was nominated and selected by a judging panel, that includes national and California motorsports writers, to receive the prestigious 2013 Justice Brothers-Shav Glick Award. Ed Justice, Jr., President and CEO of Justice Brothers, presented the award during the pre-race ceremonies at the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Auto Club 500, at Fontana Raceway on March 24.

Marion “Mickey” Thompson was born in Alhambra, CA on December 7, 1928 and became involved in drag racing in his early twenties. He was noted as a driver, mechanic and innovative designer of high-performance vehicle of all kinds. He designed and built the first “slingshot” dragster in 1954. NHRA rated Thompson as #11 of the top rated drivers from 1951 to 2000. As well as being a drag race champion, Thompson set more speed and endurance records than any other person in automotive history at that time. He was the first American to break the 400-mph barrier during the 1960 Bonneville time trials, and he designed several INDY 500 race-winning vehicles. In 1973 he formed SCORE International, an off-road racing sanctioning body. In his varied career Mickey raced everything from off-road vehicles to stock cars, to dragsters and land speed record holders. Mickey was posthumously inducted into the Motorsports Hall Of Fame in 1990.

Richard “The King” Petty Talks NASCAR Safety History in New Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) Video

Seven-time NASCAR champion Richard “The King” Petty is the star of the latest Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) video, which documents his surprise appearance at October’s Lift Inspector Certification Program kick-off. Read all about it below and click through to the video below.

The short video begins as the kick-off meeting is wrapping up. When ALI President R.W. “Bob” O’Gorman asks if there are any more questions from the audience, Petty pipes up from the back of the room with, “Yeah, I’ve got questions.” He receives a standing ovation as he walks to the podium. In his talk to the more than 300 attendees, Petty reflects on his experience with lift safety in his family’s NASCAR team garages going back to a time when they worked on dirt floors. “When we first started, there was no safety. We didn’t get anything inspected,” Petty says in the video.

He goes on to praise ALI’s new lift inspector certification program: “If you feel like you can save somebody’s life, it’s worth all the trouble.”

The ALI Lift Inspector Certification Program was launched Oct. 31 at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. It was created to provide third-party qualification of vehicle lift inspectors and to certify those who demonstrate that they are qualified to properly inspect vehicle lifts in accordance with ANSI standards and in support of OSHA’s General Duty Clause and provincial requirements in Canada. Powermaster Performance will offer free starting and charging system inspections at the 44rd annual NSRA Street Rod Nationals, August 1 through the 4th in Louisville, Kentucky.

For the fifth straight year, factory engineers from Powermaster Performance will be available to evaluate issues with vehicle starting and charging systems and help ensure safe and worry free travels for all street rodders.

Located just outside of the Kentucky Exhibition Center Freedom Hall, hours of operation will be from 9:30am to 4:00pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and 9:30am to 1:00pm on Sunday.  Due to popular demand in previous years, appointments are suggested, but not required.

All vehicles are welcome and encouraged to participate.

However, VP’s two newest fuel blends promise to set new standards for street legal performance. “We’re excited to introduce our newest street legal unleaded fuels, ‘VP101™’ and ‘VP102™’,” said Steve Scheidker, VP’s Director of Marketing. “Oxygenated with ethanol, both meet Arizona and California Air Resource Board (CARB) requirements and with octane ratings of 101 and 102 (R+M/2) respectively, have the highest octane ratings of any street legal fuel on the market.” VP101 will be offered on a regular basis, while VP102 will be available by special order only.

In applications from 4-cylinders to 12-cylinders, or the latest generations of turbo- and supercharged engines, VP101 will deliver consistent optimum performance. It delivers increased horsepower and acceleration, better throttle response and a cleaner burn. In addition, in most venues, the formula for each fuel will not change from season to season, making it easier to optimize tuning.
 
In normally aspirated engines, VP101 allows for higher compression and more advanced timing while in turbocharged or supercharged applications, it allows an increase in boost without fear of detonation. NOS users can also leverage the fuel’s higher octane rating to step up to a more powerful nitrous oxide system.
 
VP101 is safe for use in cast-iron head engines with compression ratios up to 12:1 and aluminum heads up to 14:1 and reduces the fear of detonation in power enhanced vehicles. Aircraft and Automobile Enthusiasts Invited to Celebrate Milestone Anniversary of Florida's Largest Single Day Mustang Auto Show and Only Event to Showcase both Mustang P-51 Planes and Cars

No longer in its adolescence, Fantasy of Flight's Mustangs & Mustangs: Legends Havin' Fun aircraft and automobile show celebrates its Sweet 16th birthday on Saturday, April 13. It marks a milestone year for the popular, nostalgia-based event which is already considered one of the largest single day Mustang automobile show in Florida and the only event that showcases both the restored P-51 Mustang aircraft and Ford Mustang autos of all eras, ages and styles. The event takes place Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fantasy of Flight.

Throughout the day, Mustang show cars will compete for first, second and third place trophies, as well as a "People's Choice" award. Meanwhile, rare, restored P-51 fighters will perform live aerial demonstrations. As well as watching the hot rods and fighter planes in action, guests also can take advantage of children's activities, enjoy live entertainment, and snap photos with the classic cars, vintage airplanes and celebrity impersonators.

Each year, approximately 450 Ford vehicles are registered in the show. Registered participants may have their vehicle photographed with a P-51 Mustang airplane, which is a highlight of the show each year, said Terry Blakely, President of the Imperial Mustangs of Polk County, presenters of the event along with Fantasy of Flight. Other Mustang clubs from across the Southeast will be participating as well. Admission to Mustangs & Mustangs is included in general admission to Fantasy of Flight; parking is $5. Fantasy of Flight recently opened Phase II of its Golden Hill exhibit, more than 40,000 square feet filled with rare and vintage aircraft, aircraft parts and flight artifacts - a veritable gold mine of aviation history. This treasure trove of valuable historical nuggets is named in reference to Silver Hill, the nickname for The Paul E. Garber Preservation, Restoration, and Storage Facility of the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum in Suitland, Md. Among the residents of Golden Hill Phase II are amphibious aircraft, the PBY Catalina and Grumman Duck; the carrier-based Fairey Swordfish and Grumman Hellcat; the world's earliest jets, Gloster Meteor and DeHavilland Vampire; and many more. The new exhibit is included in admission to Fantasy of Flight.

Fantasy of Flight also hosts a number of other special events during the year, including its 2013 Legends & Legacies Symposium Series.
