This month's young owner is 22-year-old Leslie Galbraith, who calls Tampa, Florida, home. Leslie is a real Mustang fanatic and owns not one, but two ponycars. She's also very good at spinning a yarn. Here she tells her story in her own words-a big drum roll for Leslie.
"I have been told that it is rather infantile to name a car. I disagree. My '69 Candyapple Red Mustang SportsRoof has a name-Lola. This particular '69 Mustang was found in a barn in West Virginia, rotting away beneath the leaves and dirt. She was, for lack of a better term, a "rust bucket." My family couldn't believe that I was even trying to attempt what seemed to them an arduous task. Lola has been under restoration since I found her four years ago. My blood and sweat is in Lola, and of course, every cent that I earn. Most of her original parts have been restored and she is 90 percent stock. Any spare time I had was spent sanding down the rust, cleaning parts or rebuilding them. Now she is my show car. Lola is powered by a 302 V-8 with a two-barrel carb and has a C4 automatic. The engine has been rebuilt and restored. After four years of hard work, cuts, and bruises, she is finally finished-at least until I can afford a new paint job.
"I also have another Mustang, which is my daily driver, a '05 Mustang GT with a few modifications. This has a Magnaflow exhaust, Steeda pulleys, and a C&L cold-air intake. Eventually, I'm hoping to get a supercharger to beef up the horsepower even more; alas, the cops would like me even more as well. What I find interesting is that my '05 is black with a red interior and my '69 is red with a black interior. Rather poetic, I think."
Ever since we've been reading Mustang, Ford, and other classic car magazines, we remember seeing ads for National Parts Depot. Founded in 1976, NPD has grown to include four strategically located, fully stocked warehouses that carry a huge array of parts for '64½-'73 Mustangs. One's located in Detroit, another in Charlotte, North Carolina, one in Ventura California, and the other in Ocala, Florida. What that means is that when you place an order, parts can be delivered to most addresses in the continental United States in just one to three business days-much faster than many rivals, and at a lower cost. NPD is committed to providing the best service possible and orders are taken 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Unlike a lot of other companies, each of the NPD facilities welcomes walk-in customers seven days a week. In addition, when you purchase parts for your project and your order runs over $300, NPD will pay the UPS ground shipping charges-how's that for service? No wonder these guys are going places. Visit www.national partsdepot.com or call 800/521-6104 for more information.
