When it comes to the most vital component of any car, regardless of year, make, model, or anything, the one thing you CANNOT be without is steering. When building the Classic Performance Parts Week To Wicked 1966 Mustang, we realized early on that our stock steering column was worn out. The shaft bearings were pretty much gone, making for a shaking, sloppy, imprecise steering wheel that was borderline dangerous on the street. So from day one, we knew we’d need either a rebuilt or a brand new column, and the choice of which to go with was easy; ididit.

For our no-frills musclecar, we went with ididit’s ProLite column, which as the name suggests is the lightest weight, non-tilt column they offer—perfect for our ’66 Hardtop. This thing weighs about 6 ½ pounds yet still has turn signals and hazard flashers and is collapsible so it won’t spear you through the heart in a front-end collision as some early factory columns can. It came with a firewall adapter and plug-in wiring for the flashers and horn and will mount any wheel with a commonly available adapter.

So check out our video of installing this puppy in our Classic Performance Parts 1966 Week To Wicked Mustang Hardtop!
