Replacing a carburetor with electronic fuel injection (EFI) is easier now than at any time in history, but it can still be a complicated and intimidating procedure. Even today’s bolt-on, self-learning throttle body-style EFI units (such as the FiTech system we used on the Classic Performance Parts Week To Wicked 1966 Mustang) require a dedicated high-pressure fuel system.

Thankfully, Classic Performance Products (CPP, the project’s presenting sponsor) makes fuel tanks designed to make it as easy as possible to add an EFI fuel system to your Mustang. Check out this video as CPP’s Danny Nix explains the different options in tanks and fuel systems, from stock carbureted setups to full-blown EFI. CPP also makes and EFI fuel pump setup for conversions, but for our car, since we were using a FiTech throttle body style injection setup, we used a CPP tank that we drilled a hole in to mount the specific-sized FiTech Hy-Fuel tight Fit In-Tank Retrofit kit.

We also were digging on the Fuel Gauge Converter, which is a little black box full of magic that is adjustable for a variety of fuel level senders and gauges, so you can dial in the fuel level as shown on the gauge perfectly—a common problem with EFI swaps and both stock and aftermarket gauges.

So if you’re in need of a new fuel tank for your early Mustang (or most any musclecar), whether it’s carbureted or fuel injected, check out Classic Performance Parts at ClassicPerform.com. And tell ‘em Mustang-360.com sent you!
