'11-'13 Mustang Performance Parts Buyer's Guide
Making the new 5.0L, V-6, and Shelby Mustangs even better with great products from the aftermarket
Classic Design Concepts' hood strut kit for the '10-'12 Mustang eliminates the need for the factory prop rod, making it easier to service or modify the engine while also enhancing the visual appeal. Available in black or silver, the hood struts are manufactured from powdercoated, high-grade steel and are designed to OE specifications with the correct valving to open and close the production hood with ease.
For the '11-'12 Mustang GT, Steeda Autosports has created an Ultimate Induction Pak that utilizes the '12 Boss 302's composite intake along with Steeda's Pro Flow Cold-Air Intake. Steeda's performance package provides a thoroughly engineered solution for both naturally-aspirated and nitrous applications. The Steeda Ultimate Induction Pak has been extensively tested to deliver optimal performance for the track, street, or drag strip.
One of the special parts on the '12-'13 Boss 302 Laguna Seca is the unique transmission cooler. Through Ford Racing, it is now available to owners of all '11-'12 Mustang GTs for directing air onto the transmission, which is especially helpful on track days or for all-out competition. The cooler and its bracket replace the factory pencil brace.
For a stealthy, blacked-out look for '10-'12 Mustangs, Latemodel Restoration Supply offers smoked light cover kits that are easy to install. The LRS kit comes with smoked covers for the headlights, taillights, and fog lights, along with a smoked taillight panel to finish off the looks.
For some drivers, the factory headrests on '10-'12 Mustangs can be uncomfortable. That's why MRT developed tilting headrests that are adjustable to four different positions, enabling drivers to achieve their most comfortable driving position. Manufactured in America, the headrests deliver factory quality fit and finish by matching the grain of the Mustang's leather interior. They are available in a variety of colors.
The '11-'12 Mustang's 3.7L V6 makes 305 horsepower from the factory, but AirRaid has figured out how to squeeze a few more ponies with their new PowerAid Throttle Body Spacer, which provides improved throttle response and increased low-end torque. Made from high-quality CNC-machined billet aluminum, the spacer features AirRaid's patented Helix-Bore design that creates a spinning of the incoming air charge as it passes through the throttle body spacer. This contributes to improved intake velocity and better atomization of the air-fuel mixture. The PowerAid is easy to install and comes with all mounting hardware.
Owners of '11-'12 Mustang GTs can put a little "road race" into their street cars with Ford Racing's Handling Pack. Available for both coupes (M-FR3-MGTA) and convertibles (M-FR3-MCGTA), the kit includes performance dampers, lowering springs (for a 1-inch drop), sway bars, strut tower brace, front strut mount upgrade, and jounce bumpers. Adjustable dampers and springs for a 1-1/2-inch drop are available separately.
Here's a time-honored modification for '11-'13 Mustang convertibles (also fits '05-'10 models). Ever since Shelby added a roll bar to the '69-'70 Shelbys, they've been a popular addition for all Mustang convertibles, especially when the '94 Mustang arrived. The SVE styling bar from Latemodel Restoration Supply is constructed from high-grade urethane that has a grained, charcoal finish for factory look and fit. Although not designed as roll-over protection, the inner structure is made of steel tubing for a solid support structure. The bar comes in charcoal black to match most interiors.
UPR's billet shifter for '11-'12 Mustangs fits both the V-6 and GT V-8 models with the 6-speed manual transmission. Made from 7075 CNC billet aluminum with a silver finish, the shifter offers 20 percent shorter throws for quicker, more precise shifting. It installs in 30 minutes.
Here's a quick and easy way to upgrade the front brakes on '11-'12 Mustang GTs and V6s. The EradiSpeed Plus-Two rotors from Shelby Performance Parts feature a lighter weight, two-piece design with an aluminum hat and iron disc. Offered as optional equipment for Shelby Mustangs, the 14-inch rotors provide increased diameter for greater leverage and improved brake torque, plus they include cross-drilled, slotted, and zinc-coated surfaces. They are direct replacement for the factory rotors, even utilizing the OEM calipers, but they are designed for larger than stock wheels.
Wheels in Black
Black wheels are all the rage today, and Ford Racing offers a great-looking set of 18-inchers for '11-'12 Mustangs (also fits '05-'10 models), both GT and V6. Measuring 18x8 inches, the cast aluminum wheels feature a mesh spoke design and matte black finish. Will not fit cars with the optional Brembo brakes.
Magnuson has released a 50-state Magnacharger supercharger system for the '11-'12 Mustang GT. The centerpiece is the Magnuson MP1900 or MP2300 (buyer's choice) TVS supercharger, a four-lobe, roots-type blower that is highly efficient and very quiet. Testing at 7 psi of boost has shown an increase of 120 rear-wheel horsepower over stock. The supercharger mounts on the engine with an equal-length runner intake manifold that houses an integral air-to-water charge cooler. The Magnacharger includes a pre-programmed, hand-held tuner that reflashes the factory ECU with a revised engine calibration.
