Mustang Week’s Test-n-Tune Drag Race Day Moves to New Location
Straight line fans come out in droves to turn a tire at Myrtle Beach Dragstrip
Mustang Week has traditionally held an “afternoon at the dragstrip” at Darlington Dragway. Mustang owners would meet at the Mustang Week event location (formerly the Myrtle Beach Mall) and drive out to Darlington, which was a good two-hour trip, to have some straight-line fun down the quarter-mile. As Mustang Week has grown and more events, both official and unofficial, have been added to the weeklong festivities the drive out to Darlington became an increasing vocal issue from participants.
For 2017 the Mustang Week staff worked extremely hard to be able to still provide test-n-tune drag racing fun for participants while reducing the driving time and keeping everyone closer to all the other activities in Myrtle Beach proper. The answer? The North Myrtle Beach Dragstrip, an institution in the Myrtle Beach area for over 30 years. Family owned and maintained for that entire time, the eighth-mile dragstrip was chosen as the 2017 Mustang Week Test-n-Tune event location.
This new location would mean that people wouldn’t have to drive as far to get their drag racing thrills, be it participant or spectator, and with just a $10 entry fee it’s a cheap day of fun no matter if your Mustang is stock or setup specifically for drag racing. For 2017 we also held our Pro Dyno Battle at the Beach dyno competition that you can read about right here on Mustang-360 as well. Enjoy the photo gallery and if you’re considering attending Mustang Week for 2018, remember, Mustang Week is not just the big car show on Friday, but a week of events you can participate in just like this test-n-tune day.
