SEMA Award-Winning Mach Forty Mustang to Debut in Gran Turismo 6
Virtual racing fans are sure to get amped up about the release of Gran Turismo 6, the Playstation-based game that will put 33 locations, 70 track layouts, and 1,200 cars right at their fingertips. The expected release date for the game will be just in time for the holiday season.
According to Kazunori Yamauchi, producer of the Gran Turismo games, about a dozen engineers get up close and personal with each car they design from taking their own photos to touching the paint. SEMA is a mecca for some impeccable rides. At last year’s SEMA show, one extremely unique Mustang seemed to attract all the attention, and will be featured in the world’s best-selling racing franchise.
David Eckert’s Mach Forty is a Mustang unlike any other with a combination of old-school Mach 1 styling equipped with a modern GT40-inspired power train. This custom ’69 Mustang nabbed the “Best in Show” award at the seventh-annual GT awards, and will be available in the new Gran Turismo 6.
The car you see here wasn’t an overnight transformation, but took a whole three years to complete from start to finish. The roof section, door frames, and doors, were all created from a ’69 Mach 1 body while brand new, hand-formed pieces of steel were created for the tail section, quarter panels, front fender, hood, floor, and full peripheral frame.
The heart of the Mustang is powered by a 2006 Ford GT 5.4L dry sump unit mated to a 4.0L Whipple supercharger. On top of that it features a MoTeC EFI system, custom billet fuel rails, dual Lamborghini throttle bodies, C6 Corvette suspension with custom coilover shocks, and an “Adjustable Horsepower Dial” that allows you to adjust the power settings from 600-850 horses.
Sadly, we will never know what it’s like to drive this pristine Mach Forty personally, but thanks to Gran Turismo 6, folks will be able to get a virtual feel for the car. No complaints here!
