The popular rule, “whatever happens in Vegas, STAYS in Vegas,” is typically something that most people who visit Sin City adhere to, as the oasis in the Nevada desert is a place that is well known for the debauchery that takes place within its city limits.

Well, that actually isn’t the case this week, as Las Vegas plays host to thousands of Mustangs, ‘Stang owners and folks who just simply love Ford’s iconic “Pony car,” who have converged on the city from all points of the world (France, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, Puerto Rico and Sweden, to name just a few), to celebrate Mustang’s 50th birthday.

No, all the intel on something this big—and this special--definitely can’t stay in Vegas, and 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Editor, KJ Jones, is on the ground at this Western edition of the Mustang Club of America’s party (an Eastern version of the bash is going down in Charlotte, North Carolina), ready to bring you photos and details of the happenings, the people and most-importantly all of the fantastic Mustangs that are here for the celebration.

As the ‘Stang’s official born day is April 17th, it’s only fitting that celebration activities officially started this morning with an Opening Ceremony at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, highlighted by an enthusiastic welcome from Rick Titus, host of the Drivers Talk radio program, MCA Director Shorty Brown, and a very special greeting via video from Lee Iacocca, as well as remarks from Hal Sperlich—the man who, as a Manager of Special Studies for Ford’s Product Planning group (directed by Lee Iacocca), created the Mustang in 1964—who is also here for the weekend’s festivities.

Of course, a mechanical “VIP” helped get the party started. The new, 2015 Mustang GT is on display for all to see, with huge crowds around the ‘Stang throughout the morning. Ford’s Global Vice President of Purchasing, Hau Thai-Tang, put it perfectly when he called Mustang “not only an automotive icon, it’s an American icon.” We agree wholeheartedly! The celebration continues through Sunday, with a massive all-Mustang car show being held each day in the LVMS parking lot, as well as hundreds of manufacturers and vendors on hand to show off their hot hardware for your Pony.

If you love Mustangs like we do and you’re in Las Vegas, come on and join the party! And, if you can’t be here with us, stay locked in right here at www.mustang-360.com for more news and sights from the Mustang’s 50th birthday bash!
