When Paul McCormick needed a daily driver (to save the wear and tear on his supercharged '98 Cobra, he says) and a car for his 16 year-old son, he ended up buying a pair of Mustang SVOs. The red '84 is Paul's driver, a 72,000-mile example that has been modified with Flowmaster exhaust, cold-air kit, and '05 GT wheels. His son got the nicer SVO, a black '86 survivor with 54,000 miles. "My Mustang friends think I'm crazy for driving such a rare Mustang every day," Paul tells us. "But it's a blast to drive on my daily commute into Philadelphia."
"My wife was rolling her eyes when she saw me dragging home another diamond in the rough," says Rich Wunder. "But since retirement and after rebuilding a few cars over the years, I decided to do one exactly the way I would have liked to have bought it from Ford, but with upgrades from later model cars." Rich's '66 convertible started out as a "neglected derelict in an alley in central Kansas," but it's looking good today after a full restoration. Modern upgrades include an AOD transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, '87 Mustang bucket seats covered in Cessna aircraft leather, a Mercedes cloth top, power steering, air-conditioning, and Classic Autosound AM/FM.
Joe Riggio from Westland, Michigan, comes from a Mustang family. "I was 13 when my parents took me to the Detroit Auto Show to see the new '69 models," Joe recalls. "I told them some day I would buy a Mach 1. They bought me an AMT model. It helped." Joe finally fulfilled his dreams by purchasing his full-size '69 Mach 1 in 1986. Restored in 1994, it's powered by the four-barrel 351 Windsor and equipped with power steering and brakes, AM radio, Magnum 500 wheels, front and rear spoilers, and rear window louvers. "My Dad, no longer with us, helped during the restoration," Joe adds. "He was very proud of me and my Mustang."
You can't miss Ellenton, Florida's Kellie Moore when she cruises the Gulf Coast in her Red Fire Pearl Metallic '04 40th Anniversary Mustang GT. "This is my baby girl named ‘Sassykat,'" Kellie says. And it's plenty sassy with modifications like a BBK 78mm throttle body, a 75hp tune from Superchips, a K&N cold-air induction, Flowtech headers, MagnaFlow mufflers, Roush lowering springs, KYB struts and shocks, UPR caster/camber plates, Stage 3 Motorsports slotted brake rotors, and Mach 1 wheels with Falken tires. Kellie's GT has run a best quarter-mile ET of 13.78 at 101.45 mph.
