'04 Cobra • Marc Hill • Syracuse, Utah

I am currently a chief master sergeant (E9) in the Air Force with almost 28 years of active-duty service. Even before I joined the military, I had a love of Mustangs. I knew I would own nothing but a Mustang the moment a Fox-body beat me in a race. At the time, I was driving a Corvette. I sold the Vette and bought a Mustang a week later and have never looked back.

A buddy of mine let me test-drive his '04 Cobra and I was sold! However, being in Hawaii, Terminators were way overpriced. I found this '04 Competition Orange Cobra, original owner and with 14,000 original miles, online in Florida. I had a buddy in the area test-drive it for me and bought it unseen in December 2005. i had it shipped from Florida to California, then to Hawaii, where it arrived a little over a month later.

As fate and the military would have it, I was assigned overseas again, to Japan, after owning the car for less than a year. I couldn't take it with me; my wife wanted me to sell it. I had multiple friends wanting to purchase it, but there was no way I could sell it. I made the decision to store it and had it shipped to Los Angeles, where it sat four-and-a-half years while I did my tour.

While serving, I sourced many Mustang forums online to learn about my Terminator, finally joining unitedstangs.com. I enjoyed this site so much, because it catered not only to everyday civilians, but to military folks all over the world as well. I ended up purchasing the site and own it to this day.

My car goals were three-fold. I wanted a car to cruise in every day and go to Mustang events; one I could take to the track; and most importantly, I wanted it to be a 600hp every-day driver. With the modifications I had, I was already near 500 hp, but 600 was my goal. Over the next few years, I purchased parts online and had them sent to my father in Colorado.

Fast-forward to July 2011. I was reassigned to Hill Air Force Base in Utah. I finally pulled my Cobra out of storage with 20,000 miles on the clock. I literally had $10,000-plus in parts to install and no time to do it. I had heard of a shop called Premier Performance in West Jordan, Utah, and called the owners, Brock and Heath, to arrange installation and tuning of my parts.

Some of the major pieces included a 2.9L polished Ford Racing Performance Parts Whipple supercharger, a returnless fuel system capable of 1,000 hp, a McLeod 26-spline RXT twin-disc clutch, D&D 26-spline input shaft, an array of suspension modifications, a Bassani X-style mid-pipe, and Magnaflow mufflers.

Premier Performance wrapped up the install and tuned the car. The result was 622 rwhp and 552 lb-ft of torque on 91-octane fuel, and 686 rwhp and 627 lb-ft on 110-octane.

I plan to add American Racing Headers longtube headers and a new tune in the future. I’m hoping to break into the 650-rwhp mark with the 91-octane tune and break 700 rwhp on the race tune. The car has not been to the track yet, but it soon will be!
