It's been too long since Ford Racing offered a new big block in the parts catalog so we panic stopped when we saw the 572 Super Interceptor crate engine at the 2016 PRI show in Indianapolis. The rumor had been circulating about the demise of the Ford big block entirely, so it came as a surprise to see this sitting on the engine stand as a complete turn-key assembly.

The marketing indicates that Ford is after the street big-block cruiser crowd with a pump-gas compression ratio, a moderate 655hp, and a street-fun 710 lb-ft at 4,500 rpm. The package is based on the A460 block with an attractive 4.500 bore and 4.500 stroke. Inside is a Scat crank and forged steel H-beam connecting rods and Diamond pistons. Rotator aside, most of the parts are from Ford Racing including the Super Cobra Jet heads that alone make the engine worth bragging about.
