Is This A Ford Mustang GT500? Did HOT ROD Drag Week Winner Tom Bailey Catch A GT500?
Normally when somebody sends you a photo of a car and says, "For sure it's something fast," you can take it with a grain of salt, but when HOT ROD Drag Week winner and general fast-car enthusiast, Tom Bailey says it, it's worth a second look.
Bailey grabbed this snapshot in Highland, Michigan on Feb 27, 2018. It shows a heavily camouflaged S550 sixth-gen Mustang with quad exhaust. It looks to us that they come out of a muffler, but it could be shadow. Although you can't see it in the photo, Bailey says the hood was "heavily bulged," and while he wouldn't swear to it, he thought it might be an even bigger bubble than on the GT350. The tires don't look huge, and fenders seem standard, but the wheels are covered, similar to spy shots from a few months ago showing a purported Mustang GT500. The main reason we think this might be a shot of Ford's upcoming show-stopper is that Bailey reported a definite supercharger whine, and Ford has already confirmed that the GT500 will be a supercharged V8 rated at more than 700 horsepower.
What do you think, is this a GT500, and how will the GT500 stack up against the ZL1 and Hellcat when it finally takes the wrappers off?
