2014 Ford Mustang GT Air Force Thunderbirds Edition Fetches $400k
I’m sure you remember that 2014 Ford Mustang GT US Air Force Thunderbirds Edition that was heading to auction a couple of months ago during the AirVenture event (also known as The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration). Before it actually crossed the auction block, we had mentioned that this Mustang was going to raise money for the EAA Young Eagles program meant to inspire “aviation pioneers of tomorrow.”
A Mustang of this caliber is likely to fetch some big bucks, but did you think it would bring in a whopping $398,000? That’s just shy of $400k going toward a great cause.
In celebration of 60 years of the USAF’s Thunderbirds, the fastest multi-jet demonstration team in the world, this one-off custom Mustang GT sports a paint job to match the Thunderbird’s F-16 Falcon jet. It can’t look like a jet without a little performance, so go-fast goodies were added by Ford Racing.
Ford has helped raise about $2.3 million for charity, with its biggest chunk of change coming from the F-22 Raptor-inspired Mustang AV8R back in 2008, which sold for $500,000, the first year Ford started creating military aviation based Ford Mustangs.
This one-of-a-kind Thunderbirds Edition Mustang features a wide-body kit with 22-inch Forgiato wheels to set off the mean widened stance. The cockpit features Recaro bucket seats, a rear seat delete kit, and a modified navigation screen and gauge cluster. The Mustang running pony projector, which illuminates when the door is open, has been changed to an airplane silhouette.
