It took a while for spring to finally arrive, but for most of the nation, temperatures are coming up, and it’s time to get that Mustang out on the streets. After being cooped up in the garage, or under a cover, there’s bound to be a lot of cleaning that needs to be done in order to get it ready for the show.

Thankfully, there are car care manufacturers like Mothers who come to our rescue to make sure we’re not embarrassed to be driving our ‘Stangs. We met with Mothers representatives recently, and a short couple weeks later, a care package arrived in the mail with new products for us to try on our Mustangs.

On one of our Mustangs, we have polished Cobra wheels, and to keep them in tip-top shape, we wanted to try Mothers PowerCone 360 and PowerBall Mini MD. These are polishing tools that utilize a drill to apply polish and remove scratches and stains. We already have the company’s Mag & Aluminum Polish and Mothers PowerMetal is also a scratch-removing polish, and once we are happy with the results, we’ll apply California Gold Synthetic Paste Wax to help protect our hard work.
We needed more car wash so the Carnauba Wash & Wax is a welcome addition to our garage, but our 2001 Bullitt is in desperate need of the NuLens Headlight Renewal Kit. Our headlights are looking pretty sad, so that product will get some use this weekend. The Aluminum Wheel Cleaner is quite possibly the easiest product we’ve ever used. Starting with a dry wheel, simply shake the bottle well, and then spray it onto the wheel itself. Let it sit a minute or so, and hose it off. We didn’t touch the wheels at all, and they look brand new once again.

As Mustang enthusiasts, our wheel game has to be on point, but that also includes the tires, as well. We don’t know a Mustang owner who doesn’t feel the same way. Mothers’ has many products aimed at making sure your Mustang’s wheels and tires shine like diamonds in the sky. The company’s Polished Aluminum Wheel Cleaner is so easy to use a magazine editor can make a set of wheels look like brand new. The Back-to-Black Tire Shine and the Speed Tire Shine complete the look of brand new wheels and tires. We tried these products, but more on them later.

One of the Mothers products we can’t wait to try is the Speed Clay 2.0. Mothers bills this product as its “fastest, most durable and versatile paint restoration and surface prep tool yet.” This product takes the clay process, and makes it much easier. Instead of running out of a clay bar, the Speed Clay 2.0’s rubber polymer technology “quickly shears off and removes both surface and embedded contaminants, including paint overspray, water spots, fresh tree sap, rail dust, bird droppings, light oxidation and brake dust.” All of these things can, in the long run, damage your Mustang’s paint. Speed Clay 2.0 is designed to stop this damage and restore your Mustang’s paint, glass and plastics. You can use Speed Clay 2.0 with either car wash or Mothers Speed Spray Wax.

Mothers Speed line of products is designed to make quick of jobs that used to take hours. We talked about the Speed Clay 2.0 already, and we plan to use it with the Speed Spray Wax. The All-Purpose Cleaner is well-rounded, and able to clean up your Mustang’s engine compartment, but Mothers also says it’s good for cleaning carpets, fabrics, vinyl, fenderwells, door jambs, and wheels and tires.

A couple other Mothers products we need to put to use is the PowerBall Mini MD and the PowerCone 360. We have a set of polished 1999-2001 Cobra wheels on a 2000 Mustang GT that need attention, and we’re eager to try both of these with Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish, and following it up with Mothers California Gold Synthetic Paste Wax. We’ve tried using t-shirts, rags, and the like, paired with microfiber towels to remove the polish, but the PowerBall Mini MD and PowerCone 360 should help us make quick work of bringing the wheels back to life once and for all.

We plan to use every product we received from Mothers, but we wanted to highlight a few of the products we are anxious to try, and to also let you know how they work. Also, if you know us, our Mustangs need all the help they can get.

We used Mothers Aluminum Wheel Cleaner and Speed Tire Shine on our front wheel and tire. With over a week’s worth of brake dust on our 2001 Bullitt’s front right wheel, we applied the Aluminum Wheel Cleaner, letting it sit for a minute. We hosed it off, dried the wheel with a microfiber towel, and applied the Speed Tire Shine. The results speak for themselves. The best part is it took less than ten minutes to do all four wheels and tires. These products make quick work of making your wheels and tires look like brand new.
