Just before the 1968½ Cobra Jet Mustang took control over the 1968 NHRA Winternationals and became immortalized in muscle car history, Hot Rod magazine (with Car Craft tagging along) convinced “The Georgia Shaker” Hubert Platt to bring his prepped CJ racer out to Pomona to reveal what he had done to it for the new racing season. It was in the April 1968 issue of Hot Rod, the same issue the Winternationals coverage was in, and showed the readers how Hubert modified his car for peak performance. These photos show Hubert launching (compare the drag strip at Pomona with how it looks now—incredible difference), and Hubert leaning against his car with Dyno Don Nicholson and Car Craft’s John Raffa.
