As updates on the 2018 Mustang, due in the fall of 2017, trickle out of Ford everyone is waiting on final power numbers, option packages, and more. However, when we came across this bit of news on Ford’s media page not only did it put a smile on our face, it confirmed to us just how passionate Mustang designers really are. You see, it’s not all stiff and sterile over at Ford, the Mustang team is allowed to have some fun and the new 2018 push button start, with its pulsing red glow, is a perfect example.

The 2018 Mustang’s interior will continue to locate the push button start at the lower left of the center stack, beneath the audio and HVAC controls. However, it’ll be easier than ever to spot with its red “heartbeat.”

The push button start feature debuted on the S550 chassis with the 2015 model year as a standard feature. The button continues into the 2018 redesign with a unique pulsing red light that lights up the words “Engine,” “Start” and “Stop” when the door is unlocked that pulses at a rate of 30 beats per minute. That pulse rate just so happens to be the resting heartbeat of the wild Mustang horse, giving the updated Mustang a heartbeat of its own!

The new pulsing push button start feature is one of many changes enthusiasts will see when the 2018 Mustang reaches showrooms this fall. Other highlights we can’t wait to check out ourselves include the 12-inch LCD all-digital, customizable instrument cluster, the all-new 10-speed automatic transmission, and more.
