Ecoboost Battle

Drag racing has been dominated by V8-powered vehicles. That’s just the way it has been for decades. The old adage “There’s no replacement for displacement,” is the pervasive thought among drag racers. However, there’s one little thing that is a replacement for displacement, and that’s a turbo.

When Ford introduced the EcoBoost line of engines, at first it was thought of as a means to have a somewhat powerful engine, yet maintain above average fuel economy. Well, of course, when you put a turbo on a car, hot rodders are going find a way to make more horsepower, and that’s exactly what happened.

When Ford put the EcoBoost into the Mustang starting in 2015, horsepower development hit maximum boost; to the point where rivalries started to brew within the EcoBoost community. These rivalries have led to the creation of EcoBoost-specific classes like the one that will take place at the 23rd Annual Nitto Tire NMRA Spring Break Shootout March 2nd-5th, 2017 in Bradenton, Florida. Class heavy-hitter Livernois Motorsports has put its money where its throttle is by sponsoring the class.

The EcoBoost Battle is open to any EcoBoost-powered Ford from the Fiesta ST, Focus ST, Taurus, Explorer, F-150, Fusion, and of course, Mustangs. The EcoBoost Battle will be a heads-up class with a .400 Pro tree, and Sportsman ladder. The added bonus for EcoBoost Battle competitors is that they’ll receive free entry into Saturday’s QA1 True Street for another chance to win.
