Richard Petty, the undeniable King of NASCAR, has a long and storied history with another major auto manufacturer (or two) but for us Blue Oval fans Richard Petty Motorsports’ decision to align with Ford Motor Company in 2010 means that while The King himself isn’t driving a Ford on track (that only happened in 1969) but his teams are. None the less, it’s a great feeling to be able to utter the name Richard Petty and Ford in the same sentence!

One of the off-spring of Petty’s relationship with Ford is that his Petty’s Garage high-performance shop is now building turn-key custom Mustang builds. Everything from nicely modified EcoBoost Mustangs to fire-breathing supercharged Mustang GT models is currently being built in the Randleman, NC facility. For 2017 fans have the King’s 80th birthday to look forward to, and part of that celebration is the Petty’s Garage crew churning out 500 limited 80th Tribute Edition Mustang GTs. Of those 500 just 43 (the King’s famous NASCAR number) will be a special silver theme. The entire run will be wearing Forgeline Motorsports' forged aluminum wheels, specifically its split five-spoke SC3C-SL model.

“This is a true honor for us, as Richard Petty is the most accomplished driver in the history of NASCAR racing,” said Forgeline Motorsports President David Schardt. “As such, ‘The King’ knows that only extremely light, yet unquestionably strong wheels can truly complement such a vehicle as this very special limited run of 80th Tribute Edition Mustang GTs. We’re very proud our wheels were selected by one of the most respected figures in motorsports.”

Forgeline’s 20-inch SC3C-SL wheel will be mounted on Continental ForceContact Performance tires in sizes P255/35ZR20 front and P305/30ZR20 rear. Built for performance-minded vehicle owners, the SC3C-SL wheel is the perfect choice in style and strength. Engineered to be lightweight, while delivering minimal deflection and excellent fatigue strength, the three-piece SC3C-SL is machined from heat-treated 6061-T6 aluminum. This forging process aligns the grain structure, reduces porosity and increases uniformity in the material, creating the highest strength-to-weight ratios and the most consistent quality.

The special 80th Tribute Edition Mustang GTs, available at local Ford dealerships, feature a Petty’s Garage Level 3 Whipple supercharger package, a Petty’s Garage cold air kit, and Ford Performance Racing Parts custom calibration for a 825 horsepower upgrade. A custom designed MagnaFlow center exhaust kit exits the rear with a special fascia personally designed by Richard Petty. Additional chassis components include a big brake upgrade, 3-way adjustable coil overs and a competition wheel hop reduction bushing upgrade. Interior appointments include a Katzkin leather package, Petty’s Garage logo floor mats, light up door sill plates, a Petty’s Garage short throw shifter, and a Richard Petty autographed dash plate numbered for each vehicle. In addition, there is a special Petty’s Garage race inspired spoiler, window etching, upper/lower mesh grill, windshield banner, tail panel badge, and decals as well to distinguish the Mustang from others on the road.
