Tyler Camper from Snellville, Georgia is our latest winner in our Generation-M contest sponsored by Tony D. Branda Shelby & Mustang Parts. Tyler comes from a Ford family, where his father owns a 1974 Torino Sport, a 1956 Ford, and is currently building his own 1966 Mustang hardtop into a Shelby clone. “He taught me everything I know about cars, and is still my go-to guy for any questions I ever have,” Tyler explains. However, it’s Tyler’s 1969 SportsRoof we’re talking about today. “Of all the body styles over the past 50 years, the 1969 SportsRoof was always my dream car. In 2014, a 1969 Mach 1 with a 351 Windsor came up for sale in my area. It was in fantastic condition, so I jumped on the opportunity and have been a weekend warrior ever since,” Tyler tells us.

Tyler’s Mach 1 is currently part way through the disc brake upgrade and you can see the Mach is wearing the 2007 Mustang GT base wheels in this photo.
The 351W for Tyler’s Mach 1 has been freshened up and given that period look with chrome long-tube headers, yellow plug wires, and more. It should look sweet back in the Mustang’s engine bay.

Tyler is building what he terms a “light” restomod and is updating the SportsRoof with “gently used parts” from late-model vehicles to get the upgrades he wants on a budget. For example, he’s using four-wheel disc brakes from a 2005 Mustang GT; larger wheels to accommodate said brakes came off of a 2007 Mustang GT. Even the interior is getting in on the late-model parts hunt with Tyler sourcing some nice leather sport seats from a 2006 Mustang. “I also plan to eventually swap from the stock FMX transmission to an AOD too,” Tyler added.

We reached out to Tyler to let him know he was our latest Generation-M contest winner (and of course you can imagine his excitement). When we asked him what his plans are for the $200 gift certificate from Tony D. Branda Shelby & Mustang Parts, Tyler told us he’d be using the gift certificate’s funds towards more interior help, including new carpet and a headliner. Glad we could help spiff up that SportsRoof’s interior Tyler! Now, what are the rest of you waiting for? If you’re under 35 and have a Mustang project, shoot a simple video and get it posted on our Facebook page now at www.facebook.com/mustangmonthlymag! You just might be our next winner trying to figure out where to spend that $200 on your project Mustang!
