It’s spring break season, which means Texas’ TX2K is in full swing with action that’s playing out all over Houston. TX2K is an event that melds track with street racing, hosting roll races, along with good, old fashioned “dig” races at Royal Purple Raceway. The other half of the event is the unspoken, unofficial street races and parties that go on outside of the event, late at night.

At Royal Purple Raceway, however, one TX2K racer’s weekend turned for the worst after a nitrous line burst on his Mustang, turning a small fire into a serious inferno within seconds, quickly overpowering the two handheld extinguishers being used by the start line officials.

The driver was lucky to have the wherewithal to get out of the car ASAP, as the fire quickly consumed the Mustang. This is hopefully a reminder to racers of all ilk to be prepared for fire – and while mounted suppression systems can be expensive, they can save your much costlier race car.
