What does the Ford GT think of its IMSA and Le Mans competition?
Hey, Ford GT! You’ve got some serious competition as you prepare for the 24 Hours of Le Mans this summer. We’re gonna throw some names at you, and you just tell us the first thing that comes to mind. Cool?
“Their level of experience. The German engineering. They do everything so correctly.”
“The whole history of the program has been a rivalry with Ferrari. The Italians are sneaky, they’ll win at all costs.”
“For America, that’s our biggest rival. They’ve been successful, but you can get in a groove and sometimes that can catch you out. We’re going to use our inexperience to try and beat them [with new ideas]. Plus, one of our mechanics, Phil Binks, is the son of a Corvette team member, Dan Binks. Phil wants to beat his dad.”
“That’s not really a competitor for us, different class. But their performance at Daytona caught everyone’s attention. When IMSA pulled the engines, that showed us why [IMSA punishes teams for perceived sandbagging during practices, the Huracán cars were penalized for ‘Balance of power’ infractions]. Maybe that’s why I said the Italians are sneaky.”
“In the past, they’ve attacked with numbers. That team is very buttoned-up. Their garage setup is very European, very organized. We’ll have to watch out for them.”
Note: This is not actually what the car said. Cars can not talk, but our secret source can!
