Boss 302S On Track

As a result of the success of the ’12 and ’13 Boss 302S, Ford Racing will be offering a ’14 race-prepared Mustang Boss 302S. We caught a few in action recently at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix during the Pirelli World Challenge event.

The Ford Racing Mustang Boss 302S is a factory-built race car, ready for track days and road racing in a number of SCCA and NASA classes. Minor modifications are required to meet different requirements for each series. Ford Racing has partnered with Watson Racing in Brownstown, Michigan, to build the cars.

Pricing for the 2014 Mustang Boss 302S is $89,995 in colors Oxford White, Grabber Blue, or Satin Black ($5,995 MSRP option).

Since reintroduction in 2011 the Boss 302S has won the World Challenge GTS Manufacturers Championship, World Challenge GTS Driver Championship, World Challenge GTS Team Championship, and NASA American Iron Championship NASA ST2 Championship.

First-Ever 7s in True Street

For the first time ever, True Street competitors broke into the coveted 7-second zone in Bradenton, Florida, at the recent NMRA Spring Break Shootout. The feat was done not just once, but three times by three different racers (Javier Leiva 7.99, shown; Blair Brannock, 7.69; Chris Escobar, 7.97). While none of them could hold on for a 7-second average, it was still a monumental achievement in the True Street class. You can read about the Spring Break Shootout and True Street competition on page 104.

Valarie Clements To Join Watson Racing Team

Recent news is that 20-year-old NMRA Renegade racer Valerie Clements will campaign a ’14 Ford Mustang for the expanding Watson Racing Team.

“We’re elated to add Valerie Clements to the Watson team,” said John Phillips, business development manager for Watson Racing. “And we’re just as excited to apply some radical ideas to the ’14 Mustang we’re building for her to drive in NMRA competition.”

Clements, an NMRA national event winner in the brutally -tough Renegade division, shares Phillips’ excitement. “It means so much to be selected for this opportunity. To be able to go into competition with this kind of support gives us more confidence than we’ve ever had.”

Mustangs Sweep Podium in NMCA True Street Opener

Just weeks after the NMRA Spring Break Shootout sizzled the track in Bradenton, Florida, the NMCA came to town and Ford Mustangs ruled the True Street category, taking the top three spots in the multi-brand True Street field.

Multi-time TS champ Chris Escobar topped the nearly 50-car field and secured his 12th TS win when he clocked the winning average e.t. of 8.12 seconds with his LaMotta Performance-backed twin-turbo Coyote SVO. Julio Don took the runner-up spot with a strong 8.66, and NMRA Blow-By Racing Spring Break Shootout class winner Randy Seward drove to the third spot with an 8.76 average.

Special Stangs Set for Carlisle

As Carlisle Events celebrates its 40th Anniversary season, the 2014 schedule will host some additional milestones, including 110 years of Ford and the 50th Anniversary of the Mustang as part of the Carlisle Ford Nationals. By combining the season-long Carlisle celebration with the Ford honors, the annual summer gathering will wow enthusiasts like never before on June 6-8 at the fairgrounds in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Part of the three-day wowing session is a special display dedicated strictly to Special Edition Mustangs, which were built for specific purposes, promotional agendas, events, or even regions of the world. Dozens of cars will be on display, and while not every one of them can be singled out in print, the following will be “must see” rides for attendees of the Carlisle Ford Nationals.
