Watson Racing Set to Back Chris Holbrook and His Cobra Jet

Watson Racing has signed on as a marketing partner with championship-winning racer and engine builder Chris Holbrook. “It’s hard to describe the importance of this sponsorship,” said Holbrook from his shop in Livonia, Michigan. “Watson Racing is the new division of Watson Engineering, a massive corporation with brilliant technical minds. With Watson Racing developing its own brand of competition components and offering services, there’s no telling the advances we can make. The other great aspect of this new sponsorship is the fact I have a personal relationship with the people involved.”

Holbrook began the season clocking an 8.504 pass at 160.68 at the NMRA event in Bradenton, Florida. One week later at the NHRA Amalie Oil Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida, he won the AAA/SA class championship, running the quickest e.t. in the history of the Stock Eliminator at 8.68 seconds. Holbrook then ran 8.58 at 158.33 mph at a later NHRA event.

Holbrook has his sights set on the season’s first Factory Stock Showdown at the NHRA Toyota Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey, to be held May 30-June 2. “Our goal is nothing short of a victory,” insisted Holbrook. “Our main objective is to win the Factory Stock Showdown, but we’ll be gunning for the Summernationals Stock Eliminator title, as well.”


Cobra Jet Flies On ESPN2

The 2014 Ford Cobra Jet Mustang was recently featured in a segment on ESPN2 during coverage of the NHRA Kansas Nationals in Topeka. Announcers David Rieff and Lewis Bloom spoke about the performance of the factory-built hot rod.

“I feel the it’s important for people who love drag racing to promote the fact that the sport wouldn’t grow with factory involvement,” said Bloom. “We’ve exposed cars like that before and the Cobra Jet is a natural fit.” Bloom added, “The reaction in the TV truck was overwhelming. And Funny Car driver Courtney Force was watching the show with her dad and commented on Twitter, stating she wanted one of the CJs.”

Australian V-8 Supercars Come to America

Famous for their door-handle-to-door-handle road racing, the Aussie race teams brought their unique V-8 Supercars to the spectacular Circuit of the Americas, located outside of Austin, Texas, May 17-19. Much like NASCAR in the U.S., the V-8 Supercars debuted an all-new car for the ’13 season. Ford, Holden (GM), Nissan, and Mercedes all have factory-backed teams competing and the action is intense. Powered by sweet-sounding fuel-injected 5.0L Windsor-based engines limited to 650 crank horsepower, the Ford teams are working hard to get a handle on their all-new cars and chassis setups. Smog-Legal Love

It is great to see your smog-legal-car buildup since living in the Toronto area is a concern for passing emissions.

I have an ’05 GT as my daily driver and have recently added a FRPP cold-air kit with tune and mufflers. I waited a couple years to do this due to concerns of reliability/durability, but it is a great upgrade that I should have done a while ago.
