Ford Seatback Fix
Remove the cotter pin as shown to remove the seatback.
As you can see, the original seatback pivot bracket has failed. In fact, both failed in our own Project KISS, the '68 Mustang hardtop where theseseats came from. The stress from use cracked and broke both pivots.
The D7ZZ-A repair bracket is a simple bolt-on. All you have to do isdrill the bolt hole.
(above & left) Position the bracket in place, making sure the raised part of thebracket falls in line with the broken factory pivot. Drill a 1/8-inchpilot hole first, using the bracket as a guide. Then, use a 5/16-inchdrill to finish out the bolt hole.
(above & below left) Install the bracket and tighten the bolt. This bolt uses a self-lockingnut, which is a challenge to tighten. On the "up" side, it will nevercome loose.
Slip the seatback pivot arm onto the new inboard pin. We're not doingthis permanently because these seats need to be reupholstered. We'regoing to tear them apart.
The outboard pivot arm is installed using a large common screwdriver orprybar. Note that the '68-'69 seatback locks into position when in theupright position. When you install the seatback, make sure this latchlocks the seatback in place.
