Correct Wittek Clamp Numbers
I have a 1971 Boss 351 I purchased a few years ago. The car was professionally restored in 2012. I have a question about the clamp on the air-cleaner snorkel tube. The one on my car is a Wittek number 69. I was told the Boss 351 used either a Wittek number 69 or a Wittek number 34. I attended the MCACN show in Chicago last November to check out the Boss 351 display. I asked several car owners about the snorkel clamp for verification. I was told by two owners the number 69 clamp is a reproduction. I try to upgrade my car when possible, so if the number 69 is a reproduction, I will replace it with a number 34. Please inform.
Boss 351 owner
The Wittek number 69 hose clamp is a current replacement for the Wittek number 34 clamp that originally came on the Boss 351. The Wittek number 69 was not used on any 1969-1971 Mustang applications.
Rare Distributor Cap ID
I found an Autolite Ford V-8 distributor cap at the Columbus Swap Meet in Ohio last November. The number on the box is DH-146. It is tan, rather than black. What did I find? I only paid $3 for it, so I had to take a chance it was something special. Help me out.
You bought a rare find for three bucks! The DH-146 distributor cap is a Hi-Performance cap. Concours correct on 1966 and 1967 427 Fairlanes and other performance applications with transistor ignition. That brown color is unique to this cap. The DH-146 was a popular performance upgrade for ’60s and ’70s Mustangs, as well. The retail value today is $200 to $250!
Boss Dust Cap
I have a 1969 Mustang Boss 302. During a recent brake job, I noticed one of the front grease caps was missing on the rotor. I have ordered two new ones, but both of them are too small. Did the Boss rotor use a unique grease cap? Thanks!
Cedar Rapids, Iowa
The 1969 Boss 302 used the Ford PN LF-1131-A grease cap. The 1969 Boss 302 and 1969 Shelby with F60x15 tires used the LF-1131-A cap. The standard 1969 Mustang used Ford PN B5A-1131-A grease cap on drum and disc-brake applications. The 1969 Boss 429 had its own grease cap under Ford PN C9ZZ-1130-A.
