We want to feel safe driving our classic Mustangs, which do not have the kind of safety features we’re used to in today’s new cars. In truth, you’re never going to be as safe in a classic Mustang as you are in a new one, so please drive carefully. When it comes to safety, automakers have come a long way with airbags, crush zones, and side-impact protection. That’s why we have to make the best of what’s available for classic Mustangs when it comes to safety equipment.

Morris Classic Concepts LLC is one such aftermarket company with its eye on safety. It offers three-point safety belts for classic 1968-1972 Mustangs that bolt in place of your Mustang’s original seatbelts. Once installed, these belts operate and fit around you comfortably. What’s more, they look sharp and like they belong there. If you want three-point belts for the back seat, Morris can help you there too.

Each set of Morris belts comes with completely assembled driver- and passenger-side seatbelts, two female ends, Grade 8 bolts, a spacer that fits between the seatbelt reel and rocker panel ensuring that it mounts flush, and all other necessary installation hardware and instructions. Each pair of front three-point belts will bolt into all existing factory holes in your 1968-1972 Mustang. These seatbelts are sewn in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer's pattern to ensure strength.

Morris Classic Concepts seatbelt sets are pull-tested to 3,000 pounds of force weekly to ensure their quality and compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). However, Morris seatbelts exceed the 3,000-pound standard by more than 20 percent, which is a big plus with Morris belts.

1. Shown are two complete Morris Classic Concepts seatbelt packages in Ivy Green for 1968-1972 Mustang. Ivy Green, as one example, is a special-order color.
2. Installation begins with removal of your Mustang’s original seatbelts using a 13/16-inch socket. Not all factory seatbelt bolts will be this size—some are 5/8 inch. It is important to remember these belts have a shoulder belt attachment point at the sail pillar above the rear seat. This bolt hole attachment point can be found on some 1967 Mustangs, but not all. You will not find it on a 1965-1966 Mustang, though an attachment nut plate can be installed in 1965-1966 Mustangs with the headliner removed.
3. The Morris seatbelt retractor is configured for installation as shown at the rocker panel.
4. This seatbelt protector sleeve is set up for installation at the sail pillar. Pulling the belt through the protector is tricky. You may need to warm the protector with a hair dryer or heat gun, taking extra care not to melt the protector.
5. This nylon spacer is installed between the belt loop and sail pillar.
6. This thick steel spacer is installed between the retractor and rocker panel to give the retractor flexibility.
7. The seatbelt is attached to the left at the sail pillar (off camera) and here at the rocker panel. The belt gently pulls across your chest. Make sure the belt isn’t tangled.
8. The secondary belt loop attaches here at the retractor belt, which is attached during retractor installation.
9. The receiver female belt attachment point is installed at the transmission tunnel and positioned inboard of the front seats.

11. We’re showing you Morris Classic Concepts rear seatbelts for 1968-1972 Mustangs. Ideally, you will install these belts with the rear window removed for ease of installation.
12. The rear seat retractor bolts to the rear package shelf as shown here. The trick is drilling the bolt hole in the package shelf, which can be performed inside the trunk or with the glass removed.
