Pete Waydo loves classic Mustangs. So much so that he quit his job at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, to open Reen Machine, home of the re-engineered Mustang (get it?).
Besides offering an interesting selection of parts for classic Mustang modifications, his company has also been known to complete custom one-off projects. Currently Pete is focusing on a '68 Mustang fastback build he's been working on for some time. A brand-new Boss 302 crate engine from Ford Racing Performance Parts is being used for this particular buildup. For the front accessory drive, a Concept One Serpentine Drive system has been chosen.
Besides a guaranteed perfect fit and alignment, the Concept One set is going to look terrific with all of the brushed bracketry and polished component surfaces. We haven't used any pulley system on the new Boss block, and we were curious to see if there would be any installation issues using the FRPP block. As you'll see shortly in our installation, the Concept one kit was one in which everything fit and worked exactly as it was supposed to-one of those rare occasions where everything went just right, without any installation issues whatsoever.
Although this '68 Mustang will be a Bullitt tribute car, the plan is for an advanced design featuring special suspension and an overdrive transmission. In addition, the car will be loaded with engine-driven amenities such as air conditioning and power steering, as well as the alternator.
Concept One offers kits for all types of accessory drives, and Pete decided to go with the full-house offering, which includes the air-conditioning compressor, a power steering pump, and a 100-amp one-wire alternator. The complete polished kit is part number SFM01P and costs $1,895; it's available with a machined finish for $1,695. Remember, these prices include all of the bracket-mounted accessories, spring-loaded self-tensioning belt tensioner, and even a Goodyear Gatorback serpentine belt!
