These are the four areas into which you can go and make tuning modifications. You can adjust timing at different rpm levels all the way up to 10,000 rpm. The fuel table allows you to configure your injector size, and then go into the sensor table to do the same with your mass air meter, so there’s no need to have your mass air meter recalibrated for larger injectors. Miscellaneous settings include needed configurations such as engine displacement, idle speed, and rev limit.
When you click the fuel table icon, this is the screen you see. You can then tune the fuel curve and configure your fuel injector size.
The virtual dashboard enables you to see real-time sensor outputs for coolant temperature, intake air temperature, engine rpm, oxygen sensor voltage, fuel injector duty cycle, and calculated horsepower. The dashboard also gives an instant readout of the engine’s volumetric efficiency, raw injector pulsewidth, mass air being consumed, total timing advance, commanded air/fuel ratio, battery voltage, and whether you’re in open- or closed-loop mode.

We recently told you about the latest in computer chip technology from various chip manufacturers that can make custom chips for just about any application (Performance In A Chip). From mild to wild combinations, extra horsepower is just a chip away in most cases. However, if there's a drawback to these custom chips (and this is probably the only drawback), it's that most times you must send the chip back to the manufacturer if you change your combination. If you started out with a mild setup (performance intake and maybe nitrous) and add heads and a cam, along with a bigger fuel pump, the chip will obviously need some work to take these additions into consideration. The SpeedBrain stand-alone computer will allow you to do exactly what the chip manufacturers do to their chips to make awesome performance possible.

The SpeedBrain was developed by Automotive Computer Corporation in Worcester, Massachusetts, while Auburn Performance, also in Worcester, was one of the first to carry it. The SpeedBrain came about after lengthy durability testing, trial tuning, and countless hardware revisions by software and hardware experts, automotive tuning experts, and hot rodders, with a combined experience of several decades. The result of all this work and technology is a direct, plug-in-and-go computer upgrade which takes mere minutes to install.

The SpeedBrain could easily be confused for a factory EEC computer if it wasn't for the SpeedBrain logo. It's even the exact same size as the factory EEC computer. The SpeedBrain is a direct replacement for '89-'95 5.0 Mustangs (or those that have been converted to mass air) with five-speed transmissions. They will be available for AOD, AOD-E, and other models soon.

Although more expensive than the average computer chip, the SpeedBrain is less expensive than other automotive performance computer systems. Everything needed to install it in your car will set you back $699, provided that you already have a laptop computer, or desktop PC, equipped with Windows 95.

The SpeedBrain will allow you to alter four areas-spark, fuel, sensors, and miscellaneous. The SpeedBrain is pre-programmed in stock parameters for all four tables. Once installed, you can tune the four tables to your liking. With the SpeedBrain you have full control of ignition timing from idle to 10,000 rpm. You can adjust your timing at different rpm levels just like a chip manufacturer would do in a computer chip program. You can use almost any mass air meter, recalibrated or not, with almost any high-impedance injector size.

What this means is that if you step up injector size you don't need to have your mass air meter recalibrated, just make your adjustments within the SpeedBrain and you're done. With the SpeedBrain you have full control of air/fuel ratios for closed loop (low speed), open loop (high speed), and even wide open throttle fuel for supercharged or turbocharged cars. You can set displacement correctly for stroked 5.0 or 351W engines for correct fuel delivery and set idle at any speed for monster-cam cars.

You can also keep a log of tuning setups on your hard drive (as much information as your hard drive can handle). You can log mass airflow, engine rpm, oxygen sensor output, injector duty cycle, horsepower calculation and your engine's volumetric efficiency. All this can be stored on your computer for future reference. You can program the SpeedBrain repeatedly, even on the fly when the car is running with a laptop, with no adverse effects. Downloading a new program takes only 30 seconds.

The SpeedBrain also serves as a datalogger. A datalog function allows you to go into the computer and check a variety of parameters reached during a run using a laptop. In other words, you can check mass airflow, engine rpm, injector duty cycle, horsepower calculation, and so on, during a run and save those numbers for future reference. With the datalog function, you basically have a Dynojet in your passenger's side kick panel. If you add a performance component, you'll have hard numbers on exactly how much of an impact the modification had on your setup.

The SpeedBrain is the latest computer system released for 5.0 Mustangs, and many 'Stang bangers have already installed the SpeedBrain on their cars with excellent results. We can't wait to get our cars up to speed to where we can reap the benefits the SpeedBrain can offer. It's easy to install and program. It's the most inexpensive stand-alone performance computer system on the market, and it fits right in the stock location with no modifications needed to install it. Does the SpeedBrain fit into the bolt-on category? If it does, this is a true 'bolt-on.' No hacking or cutting or welding required for most 'bolt-ons.' Just use your SpeedBrain.
