This is CDC's Mustang Power Fuel Door kit. For your $295, you get a set of fully-detailed assembly instructions, the electrical actuator assembly, the billet fuel door/release assembly, 4-aluminum clamp backs with washers and lock nuts, a pair ofstainless steel sheet metal screws, and a pair of stainless steel button machine screws. Also included in the kit is a 3/8-inch wrench, a 3/16-inch Allen wrench, and a 3/32-inch Allen wrench. Installation time is about 3-5-hours.

Classic Design Concepts has introduced many of the more popular Mustang show items of late, including the Shaker hood and the billet gas filler door seen on the 2001 Bullitt Mustang. Its latest product, the power fuel door kit, is a takeoff of the latter, and it fits 1994-2001 pony cars. This product made its formal debut on CDC's award-winning 2001 Mustang convertible "Silver Streak" (see MM&FF, June '01), which captured the prestigious "Ford Design Award" at the 2000 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas.

Retailing at $295, CDC's Mustang Power fuel door not only looks great (while protecting your Mustang from potential gas theft), it's easy to install using common shop tools like a fork tool, T20 Torx bit, electric drill, 1-inch hole saw bit, a 3mm Allen wrench, a pair of pliers and an electrical test light.

CDC's kit consists of a set of highly-detailed assembly instructions, an electrical cable actuator assembly, the billet-aluminum fuel door and release cable assembly, two electrical connectors, four aluminum cap blacks with washers and lock nuts, a pair of stainless-steel sheet metal screws, and a pair of stainless-steel button machine screws, also with washers and lock nuts. Also included is a 3/8-inch wrench, 3/36-inch Allen wrench, and a 3/32-inch Allen wrench. Installation time is approximately 3-5 hours.

The only downside to the kit is that it uses the electrical hookup on the remote trunk wiring harness. CDC's billet gas cover and the trunk itself will both open when the trunk keyfob is pressed. To avoid this problem, it's necessary to unplug the trunk release connector at the trunk latch, rendering the decklid manual in operation. At that point, the billet fuel door cover is then actuated by the trunk release keyfob button instead. Now follow along as CDC installer Craig Colden shows how to get the job done.
