Paul's High Performance boss and chief lead-foot, Paul Svinicki, was as anxious as a caged tiger while waiting for his '05 GT to show up. Regular readers will recognize that Paul has an uncanny knack for getting the most straight-line performance out of any Mustang-traction-wise and power-wise-so it should surprise none of us that, according to our pals at Hot Rod magazine, he was the first to get a naturally aspirated '05 deep into the 12s. Along the way, his traction-sensitive butt made note of a lot of wheelhop-"more than even the dreaded '99 Cobra," says Paul-so new rear lower control arms were among the first '05 products engineered by the PHP crew.
For strip use, or any authoritative launch, the factory lower arms have two issues: First, a butter-soft set of bushings, fore and aft, and second, an open architecture that apparently permits considerable flex in the rather lengthy arms. PHP's simple and affordable solution is a set of fully boxed, lower control arms with polyurethane bushings.
Snow on the ground during our February tech visit meant we couldn't put these new arms to any meaningful test, but we have no reason to doubt the effectiveness of anything Paul develops for his own race program. Another bonus? They're quick to install.
