Cool parts to make your Mustang handle and hook
KYB Gas-a-Just Shocks
At DallasMustang.com you can get a set of performance KYB Gas-a-Just shocks (PN 5262) for your 1964-1970 Mustang. The KYB monotube shock absorber has performance advantages over a standard twin-tube design. It can instantly adjust to your handling and control needs without experiencing performance fade due to aeration. The Gas-a-Just has two separate working chambers: an air-free hydraulic piston and valve area for responsiveness and control and a second high-pressure nitrogen gas area with a floating piston that provides a comfortable ride during normal driving and adds instant performance on demand. The higher gas pressure keeps your tires glued to the road. The velocity-sensitive valving system adjusts quickly to changing road conditions for maximum comfort in any situation. Panhard Bar System
Total Control Products’ Panhard bar system for leaf-spring suspensions greatly improves vehicle handling response by providing superior control over side-to-side movement of the rearend housing. Installation and proper setup provides a noticeable change in vehicle handling with a more direct and connected feel during cornering. By minimizing the nervous tendencies found in leaf-spring suspensions, the TCP Panhard bar makes driving near the vehicle's performance limit much easier. The Panhard bar component is part of a fully featured system with weld-on frame brackets integrating the antiroll bar mounts, and bolt-on leaf spring plates with built-in shock mounts and tie-down loops. Systems are available for 1964-1973 Mustangs and Cougars. Complete information is available online or by phone.
Backed by extensive engineering and manufacturing expertise, the Total Control Products rack-and-pinion systems are the premiere steering solution for 1964-1970 Mustang/Cougar and 1960-1965 Falcon/Comet/Ranchero. Maintaining correct steering geometry, full centerlink travel, and a high level of positive, direct steering without decreasing ground clearance or obstructing header clearance are features unique to Total Control’s patented design and not possible with OEM-based units. The modular design employs an assortment of specialized components that allow adaptation to specific configurations for manual or power assist, small-block or big-block engines, and left- or right-hand drive steering. Geared toward the do-it-yourselfer, most installations are 100-percent bolt-on and use existing factory mounting locations, with a few exceptions depending upon vehicle model and year. Rack-and-pinion kits ship complete with steering column mounts, shafts, and U-joints for OEM or aftermarket columns; tie-rods optional. An installation video, a data sheet, and price information are available online.
Rear Pushrod Suspension System
The rear pushrod suspension system from Total Control Products provides dominant road course handling performance for 1964-1970 Mustangs and Cougars in a sophisticated, self-contained package. Leaf springs attempt to handle rearend housing movement in six directions as well as torque reactions during acceleration and braking. The pushrod system replaces the leaf springs with VariShock™ coilovers (two- or four-way adjustable), tubular trailing arms, a watts link assembly, and a heavy-duty torque arm. This separation of housing control jobs into specialized components enables a superior level of positioning and geometry accuracy, with consistent and predictable handling in the most demanding of performance applications. Minimal welding is required for the cradle frame brackets and accompanying subframe connector system, with absolutely no cutting or custom fabrication needed to complete installation. Visit the Total Control Products website for the detailed 12-page product data sheet as well as available options and prices.
Upgrade your original factory spindles to improved and newly manufactured forged spindles from Total Control Products. Using modern steel alloys with increased durability and strength, the forgings are based upon Ford’s proven 1970-1973 disc-brake spindle, known for its large bearing size and stouter, more radiused design. The spindle can be used with most compact and intermediate-sized 1960s and 1970s Ford/Mercury vehicles due to common upper and lower ball joint tapers and spindle height. However, the larger spindle pin and outer tie-rod taper, redesigned axle flange, and caliper mounts require brake system upgrades for earlier vehicles. Tie-rod and bumpsteer conversion sets are also available from Total Control Products to complete your installation. This product is strongly recommended for vehicles with upgraded brakes or that have been fitted with performance tires due to the increased force subjected to the spindle. Visit the Total Control Products website or call to order.
Factory-style strut rod mounts are a huge contributor to instability during braking and should be one of the first components on your upgrade list. The strut rods offered from Total Control Products correct any of the factory issues without introducing negative suspension geometry changes, making them the absolute best choice on the market. What sets these strut rods apart is the TrueCenter™ pivot socket, a specialized concentric spherical bearing that maintains the correct strut-rod pivot position without the increased resistance or deflection under braking found with rubber and polyurethane bushings. The net result is reduced caster change during braking and cornering, leaving you with not only a better handling vehicle but one that exhibits predictable handling characteristics when you need it most. Applications include 1964-1973 Mustangs and related Ford/Mercury models from 1960 to 1977. Call or visit them online for full details.
Sway Bar & Shock Packages
Total Control Products offers a selection of direct-replacement front and rear suspension upgrade packages for classic Mustangs and related models. Kits include front and rear antiroll bars matched with VariShock™ Bolt-Ins, a line of high-quality OEM-replacement shock absorbers. Front bars include billet-aluminum chassis mounts and urethane bushings. Rear bars are axle-mounted and feature three endlink adjustment holes to vary the bars spring rate. VariShock billet-aluminum shocks are included in the package and are available as factory-valved or 16-position single- or 256-setting double-adjustable versions to fine-tune the ride quality and handling. Installation takes just a few hours and may require drilling and minor trimming to mount the components. Applications include 1964-1973 Mustang/Cougar and 1963-1970 Falcon/Comet. For complete details call or visit Total Control Products online.
Upper Control Arms
Improved braking stability, sharper steering response, reduced body roll, and precise control of alignment settings are all easily achieved with this simple bolt-on from Total Control Products. While no more difficult than replacing a stock control arm, the double-adjustable and dropped pivot-shaft arms will add much-needed functionality and improvement to nearly any Mustang-related Ford or Mercury from 1960 to 1977. Bolting directly in place of the stock upper arm, the Total Control arms feature an offset pivot shaft to gain the geometry benefits of the lower pivot axis without holes having to be drilled through the shock tower. (Nonoffset pivot shaft arms also available.) In addition to creating deflection-free pivot points, the double-threaded assemblies enable on-car adjustment of both caster (6-degree range) and camber (5 1/2-degree range) within minutes, and to a level of precision not possible with standard shims. Visit online or call for more information.

’65-’73 Mustang Strut Suspension Kit
Our favorite Mustangs suffer from poor suspension geometry common to most 1960s cars due to the minimal demands of the tires and traffic of their day. Today’s roads and superior tire traction require updates to make these cars handle like new cars. By installing a strut-type suspension based on 1994-2004 Mustang parts, you will eliminate the factory bumpsteer while gaining an adjustable stance with either coilovers or Airride. The rack-and-pinion crossmember bolts in and reinforces the body, avoiding the problems associated with welding an MII crossmember into the weak stock subrails, while retaining the option of trimming the fenderwells for header clearance. Original front sump oil pans and engine mounts are preserved. This bolt-in swap will let your Unibody Fords run in the fast lane.
’65-’73 Mustang Dropped Spindles
Classic Mustangs continue to be one of the most popular choices as hot rod material, but they could use some help in the stance and stopping areas. Although many options exist for a total replacement of the factory front suspension, the installation complexity and expense can be too much for some rodders. A simpler alternative is a dropped spindle, which lowers the stock suspension while maintaining full travel and tucks the tires into the fenders. With in-house CNC machining capability, Fatman makes its 2-inch dropped spindles featuring an integral mount for the effective and easy-to-source 1970-1981 Camaro caliper along with the 1975-1980 Granada rotor. Applications include the 1965-1973 Mustangs and their cousins, the 1963-1976 Falcon, Fairlane, Torino, Maverick, and Mustang. See them online or call to get your Mustang sitting right.
Stocker Star Shocks
Improve your handling with QA1’s front and rear bolt-in Stocker Star shocks, designed specifically for your 1964-1973 Mustang. These non-coilover shocks allow you to meet your performance goals with the level of adjustability that suits you. Dial in the perfect performance with the double-adjustable, single-adjustable, or drag “R” series valving options, or upgrade to a self-adjusting ride with the nonadjustable shocks. All QA1 aluminum shocks and struts are made in the USA and are 100 percent dyno tested and serialized, ensuring that they are of the highest quality.
Subframe Assembly and IFS
Upgrade your 1965-1970 Mustang steering to an MTF IFS and put in your new framerails, all in one easy-to-install unit. The MTF subframe assembly is made with 11-gauge 2x3 tubing and is a lot stronger than the factory framerails. Everything is completely welded and ready to go, including the engine cradle, sway bar brackets, and jack pad. MTF offers an easy-to-install long and short sub-frame versions.
The IFS part of the subframe assembly converts your classic front suspension from original equipment to a powerful, controlled ride. This solves clearance problems while giving you superior handling, power steering, and more stopping power. The kit includes extras like a power steering unit, 18-gauge shock tower covers, upgraded nickel U-joints, and a stainless double D-bar. This system uses standard shims for easier adjustment, and the shock mount bracket is welded in a fixed position so it won't move on you later. This A-arm mount and cradle are made of 11-gauge American steel.
The bling of this system are the QA1 Pro Coil adjustable shocks and coilovers. They not only look great but also offer the best shock technology out there. You will have more engine and header clearance with the shock tower covers that come with the kit, or upgrade to the MTF full inner fender panels.
It's all in the details, and the brake line bracket is already welded on for you. All MTF parts are laser-cut for precision. MTF not only manufactures parts but restores Mustangs, providing the company insight into parts development and what works.
Available as an all-in-one unit, or you can purchase the subframe assembly and then the IFS later.
Cradle motor options: 289, 302, 351, 390, 428, Coyote 5.0, 4.6, 5.4, and 5.8.
