Meet Jolynn Toma, who is active on a number of levels. She owns a private personal training studio and is currently a nursing student. Jolynn has also competed on the national level at NPC bikini competitions. She says, “I was born and raised a Ford girl. I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by Mustangs my entire life. My dad has a classic 1968 Fastback, and my mom has a supercharged 2006 GT. My brother has a Fox-body. My sister raced one. And then there’s me. I stepped foot into a Jr. Dragster when I was 14 years old. It was my first and last year at it. Back then I didn’t think it was for me.”

Fast-forward to today. Jolynn is 27 years old, a wife to a drag race–loving husband, and a mother to one with another on the way. “When I was given the opportunity to race a 1991 Fox-body last year, I jumped at the chance. I couldn’t wait to get back on the track,” she told us. Jolynn went for the points chase, listening and asking a number of questions along the way. All said and done, she ended up placing third out of 48 drivers in the Sportsman Division at the Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois. It didn’t stop there—she even went on to earn the Rookie of the Year award.

Jolynn says that the car she drove ran consistent 12.50s at 113 mph and was powered by a 0.030-over 5.0L with an E303 cam, Edelbrock heads and intake, and an SN93 Paxton supercharger pushing 6 psi of boost. Transferring the power is an AOD transmission with a manual-shift valve body, a 2,400-stall converter, and 4.10 gears out back.

Nice ride, Jolynn, and big ’grats for placing in the top of your field.

Jolynn also acknowledged the folks who helped her out. “I would like to give a huge thanks to my sponsors, Stevenson Auto Repair in Kankakee, Illinois, and Simpson Racing of Indianapolis, Indiana. I look forward to racing again next season!”
