Dream Giveaway’s 2018 Mustangs Announced
Dreaming of Bullitts
It has been pretty obvious that 2018 is the 50th anniversary of the Steve McQueen cult flick Bullitt. Between the announcements of Ford releasing a limited-edition Mustang Bullitt and the news that the original Bullitt Mustang movie car has been made public, it’s certainly apparent that 2018 is the “year of the Bullitt.”
So when the Dream Giveaway folks were once again looking to offer a pair of Mustangs for their annual giveaway program, it was a no-brainer that they would capitalize on the Bullitt fever and offer up a pair of Mustangs (as they have done in the past)—a classic and a modern Mustang with matching details/features.
Dream Giveaway starts their annual giveaway search with the classic Mustang first. Over the years they’ve had a couple of the classic Mustangs custom-built just for the giveaway, such as last year’s GT350X fastback, while other years an in-depth nationwide search helped dig up just the right car. For the 2018 giveaway’s Bullitt theme it was imperative that they find a top-notch Bullitt recreation. They weren’t necessarily looking for something “movie correct” but something built with the best parts, excellent build quality, and, of course, Highland Green paint to fit their Bullitt criteria. The ’68 fastback you see here certainly fits all three.
The fastback was a dream build (excuse the pun) for the previous owner, and no expense was spared. From the pro-level paint to the installation of a custom TCI IFS front and Total Control Products G-Bar coilover rear suspension, everything exudes quality in the fastback’s build. It’s a bit on the restomod side, but like we said, Dream Giveaway wasn’t looking for a super movie-correct car, but something that would be unique, fun to drive, and be on par with the caliber of cars the giveaway is known for. While the fastback is powered by a correct 390ci FE big-block, it is tuned up with dual four-barrel carburetors, Crites Performance long-tube headers, March Performance serpentine beltdrive, and more for an estimated 400 horsepower. It also features Bullitt lettering on the valve covers and a custom air cleaner. Backing the big-block is a Tremec TKO-600 five-speed manual transmission, making the car highway ready and suitable to drive anywhere. Connecting the engine and trans is a Ford Performance flywheel and Ram HDX clutch inside a Quicktime bellhousing. A Flowmaster Super 40–based dual exhaust system gives the fastback the classic throaty muscle car sound it so deserves.
Besides the aforementioned TCI front suspension, which includes power rack-and-pinion steering, and the TCP G-Bar coilover rear, the ’68 Bullitt has a TCP Fab9 9-inch axlehousing stuffed with Strange Engineering axles and a Moser centersection. Wilwood Dynalite Pro 4-piston disc brakes are found at all four corners, visible through the Bullitt-authentic American Racing gray-center Torque Thrust wheels.
Inside, the classic Bullitt is ready to go anywhere you point it, with custom Classic Instruments gauges in the dash, an ididit tilt steering column, and a Vintage Air Gen IV A/C system. The seats have been upgraded with TMI Sport covers and foam for a slightly bolstered fit that is worlds above the OE seat in terms of comfort. While we love the sound of the dual exhaust, if you really want to listen to some tunes an AM/FM stereo has been fitted to the dash, and brushed aluminum “deluxe” dash trim and door inserts give the all-black interior just a bit of flair while still looking very much like a Mustang interior.
Seeing this Bullitt fastback in person we can’t even begin to say how badly we’d love to have this in our garage (along with the matching 2019 limited-edition Bullitt Mustang as well). Of course, our chances of owning it are just as good as anyone else who makes a donation to Dream Giveaway via the program sponsor—New Beginning Children’s Homes (NBCH). Your donations to NBCH help to provide grants to various charities that they support, including MADD, Honor Flight, Smile Network International, National Guard Educational Foundation, Detroit Rescue Mission, and Bright Pink. Any donation is 100 percent tax deductible, as NBCH is a 501(c)(3) organization (Federal ID# 27-5011514). Dream Giveaway will even spot you $25,000 to help offset the tax burden of winning these two Mustangs! The Mustang Dream Giveaway officially launched July 1, 2018, and is ongoing through early 2019. Dream Giveaway’s “Matching” 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt Edition
Like past giveaways, there’s also a matching late-model Mustang as part of the program. In this case, since it’s all about the Bullitt in 2018, Dream Giveaway has ordered a 2019 Mustang Bullitt edition. By the time you read this, the car will have made its way down the assembly line with VIN #00011. The 2019 was ordered with four factory options:
• Bullitt Technology Package, including B&O Play 12 speaker stereo, navigation, and BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross Traffic Alert
• MagneRide Damping System
• Recaro Sport Seats in black leather with green accent stitching
• Full-vehicle car cover
Of course, Dream Giveaway didn’t leave the 2019 Bullitt to rest on its factory performance and options either. Where’s the fun in that? No, they handpicked a few select Ford Performance goodies, such as the 2019 Mustang MagneRide Performance Calibration (Ford part #M-9602-M), short-throw shifter (Ford part #M-7210-M8C), and the 2019 Mustang Half-Shaft Upgrade kit (Ford part #M-4130-MA).
