The finished product proves it's not megabucks and hype that catch editors' eyes. It's color, stance, and the creative use of off-the-rack parts that really get their attention. When we caught up with Matt at the Indianapolis Goodguys Hot Rod Nationals this past summer, he was running the wheels off his latest creation and thoroughly enjoying the fruits of his efforts. It's always nice when you get it just right.
A New Owner Steps In
Just as we were going to print with this article, we received word that the car had changed hands, and we felt it was only right that we acknowledge the new owner. So here's a little background on the young man. Christian Yarsabal is 25 years old and was raised in Weslaco, Texas, which is located in the South Texas Rio Grande Valley. When 9/11 happened, he enlisted and served 15 months in Iraq with the U.S. Army invasion force. He is presently employed by a private security company that provides high-threat security for the Department of State in Iraq.
Christian dreamed of owning a '66 Mustang fastback since he was in high school but felt it wouldn't be possible to make his dream come true. He just never seemed to have the time, money, or skills necessary to put one together, and there weren't a lot of builders in his area that specialized in the customized musclecars he liked.
Then he saw Matt Nieters' car and was completely captivated. Not only was it a '66 fastback, but it also was green, had some neat interior tweaks, the perfect wheel/tire combination, and was slammed right down to where it should be. After a bit of negotiating, Christian bought the car as a 25th birthday present to himself.
He says his plans for the car are to cruise in it and enjoy it just as it is until he's old and gray. He also wants to thank Matt Nieters and his friends at Showcase for making his dream come true.
