Larry And Phyliss Hamm's '07 Roush Blackjack And '08 Roush P-51A Mustangs
This handsome pair of Roush Mustangs belongs to Larry and Phyliss Hamm of Waynesville, North Carolina. They each wanted their own high-performance Ford car, and this dynamic duo is the result. Not content to go with a Mustang GT or a modified version thereof, the Hamms started with these specially prepared Mustangs offered by Roush Performance. The Roush Blackjack is an '07 model while the Roush P-51A is an '08 offering. The Blackjack is supercharged with 430 hp and has 18-inch Roush wheels and billet aluminum trim. As Henry Ford once said, "It's available in any color so long as it's black." The Roush P-51A is also supercharged, and at 510 hp, the P-51A is the most powerful Mustang that the company has ever offered. For the P-51A, a different supercharger is used, and the 4.6 Three-Valve engines are opened to receive new internal components. These upgraded parts help the engine stay together when under pressure from the RoushCharger supercharger system.
A Roush seven-piece aero body kit is used on the Blackjack while a four-piece kit is used on the P-51A. Both include a front fascia, chin spoiler, hoodscoop and rear spoiler. The P-51A is not equipped with the special real valance panel or the rear-window louvers. Both cars are equipped with a Roush high-flow grille. The truth is that a Roush Mustang comes with just about everything one might desire, but the Hamms wanted something to further distinguish their cars from the rest. However, with production figures of 100 for the Blackjack and 151 for the P-51A, there is no crowd from which to be set apart. Both cars feature vertically opening doors from Lambo Style Doors (LSD).
Roush Mustangs aren't just fast, they also handle. The Stage 3 suspension underneath both vehicles replaces many stock components, and the new parts are designed to help you negotiate even the tightest turns without sacrificing ride quality. The setup includes specially engineered and tuned front struts, rear shocks, front and rear springs, front and rear antisway bars, and bumpstops. Each component was specifically engineered so that ride comfort was not compromised at the expense of the tremendous gains in performance. The front brakes are also upgraded with 14-inch front two-piece rotors and four-piston calipers. The inner world on both cars includes custom Roush Sport Leather seating embroidered with the Blackjack or P-51A emblem, white-face gauges, and billet aluminum pedals. State-of-the-art electronics and stereo are also part of the interior formula for both rides.
Indeed, these two Roush Mustangs seem dialed in for maximum performance and fun factor. The Hamms didn't really say whose car was whose, and we'd guess that the only quandary they have with their two Roush Mustangs is who's going to drive which one on their next outing.
