Mercury Cougar

The Mercury Cougar was first released in 1967 and was originally a mix between the second-generation Mustang and the Ford Thunderbird. In 1974 the Cougar was being marketed as a mid-sized personal luxury car and through the 1980s was very similar to its sibling, the Ford Thunderbird. In 1999 the Mercury Cougar returned to is sports car origins but sales weren’t strong and its struggle to find its place in the market lead Ford to discontinue the line in 2002.
