However, at this point in time, Nowak was looking to start his own business. Along with a business partner he decided to set up Portland Tint in the Maine city of the same name. Starting a new business usually requires a decent amount of capital and although he was extremely reluctant, Chris decided it would probably be best to put the '91 up for sale. "It wasn't easy, but I felt it was the best thing to do, still I wanted to make sure this car went to the right owner - I wasn't about to sell it to just anybody." About the same time this was going on in Maine, an Ohio enthusiast by the name of DJ Mayle was looking for a Fox Rod to have some fun with. Mayle already owned a pristine white '93 LX coupe with low miles and also a black '89 notch he'd built for drag duty, but he was looking for a nice bonafide street machine. His cousin Loren was on the Internet one day and came across Nowak's '91 LX being advertised for sale.
"I was really looking for a clean Mustang to have some fun with," says Mayle, my '93 is so original that I'm almost afraid of driving it, plus I want to keep the mileage low and preserve it. My other car is a fun toy for the drag strip, but I just wanted something I could go cruising in." When Loren showed him Nowak's car, DJ didn't waste any time. "I had a good feeling about this one. I talked to him and decided to make the trip up to Maine. I think I was lucky, because the car was located pretty far north and that probably put off a few would be buyers." In Mayle's case it would prove a blessing. Upon viewing the car he was sold. "Chris had done everything right with this one - it was just what I was looking for." So DJ got the Mustang he was looking for and Nowak had the cash he needed. "I was pretty glad to sell it to DJ - he's the perfect owner for that car - we've talked to each quite regularly and he takes good care of it." Since he purchased it (and since these pictures were taken), Mayle has made a couple of changes, such as painting the black rub strip inserts body color, installing a '93 Cobra rear wing and cross-drilling the rotors, but otherwise he just drives it on the street and takes it to the occasional show during the nice weather. "I'm thinking about putting some FR500 wheels on it, but other than that I just really like this car the way it is. It isn't often that you luck out with a modified Mustang that's already built - but this one, it's just awesome, what a great car." Chris and DJ still chat to each other on a regular basis. Nowak's shop, Portland Tint (www,portlandtint.com), is fully up and running and in fact, Chris now misses his old '91 enough (HP Performance still uses it on their advertising), that he asked to buy it back from DJ. Have a guess what the current owner said.
