If you want to become an Edsel owner, there are still opportunities. This car was on the sales lot at the '02 Ford Expo near Columbus, Ohio. It was a good example of a restored car and carried a very favorable price tag.

As you can see from this profile shot of an Edsel at the '02 All-Ford Nationals at Carlisle, there was a lot to like about the car. The stylish look reflected the '50s and beyond, but new ideas sometimes take time. The car was never given the time to develop a loyal following.

The last year for the Edsel was 1960. With a body style closely resembling its Ford cousins, this car was a true limited edition. Fewer than 3,000 Edsels were made in 1960, but they are still prominent at shows. The International Edsel Club Rally in 2002 saw between 25 and 30 '60 models, and there are quite a few in various stages of restoration around the world.

The Edsel, with its strong engine package, could have been a contender in days on race competition. This '59 model (with a Mercury 312 engine) was a participant in the '02 Y-Block Shootout at Ford Expo. The driver was 17-year-old Andy Sheets of Indiana, and this car has been in the family (his uncle was first owner) longer than Andy.

If you don't want to restore the Edsel to the original configuration, you have options. This Edsel is lowered, and these cars make good candidates for engine swaps. Some choose to go the restomod route because of the relative lack of N.O.S. parts on the market today.
